Christmas tree being prepared for St. Georges day

A 50ft Christmas tree currently on show in Nottingham city centre will be transformed into a maypole when the festive season is over.
Instead of shredding the tree and turning it into compost, the council has decided to strip, prime and paint the trunk in time for St George's Day.

Brass fittings and ribbons will be fitted and Morris dancers will use the maypole on 23 April.

Nottingham City Council said it was just an innovative recycling method.

The council has asked residents with Christmas trees that are unsuitable for use as maypoles to chop them up and put them in recycling bins to be collected after the holiday.

I'm glad that they're thinking about St. Georges day I'll pop down for the parade, 10 mins down the road

Yes and only England matters. It gives you a buzz to see all the flags flying and waving around. In the past not people were recognising St. Georges day but in recent years people are celebrating it more and more.

Also of Serbia, Montenegro, Ethiopia and Moscow, according to Wiki. There has, indeed, been something of a resurgence in celebrating St George's day; to be honest I think the English were just a little jealous of the fun the Irish and Scots had in celebrating their patron saints' days... both of which are still more widely celebrated in England than St George's day!
