Pakistani, i hate to associate myself with british, because thats like jumping into thoughts of culture and quite frankly i find some of the non muslim british culture disgusting, like smoking with children, alcohol, going to the pub, breakfast fry ups, that sort of thing.

Is muslim a cast? hehe

I understand most of you do not wish to be labelled and only wish to be known as muslim, but I think this thread is asking if you belong to a cast or not? If you do, MashaAllah. If not Alhamdulillah

Asalamu Alaykum,

Sorry to burst the bubble, however, caste system is frowned upon and goes backs to racial discrmination...

I don't see myself to have a caste sytsem but i'm human, live on Earth....if you mean my ethnicity then it is *cough* it'll cost you :) .

I think we should be referring here to our ETHNIC ORIGIN. The distinction here being that Islam is our religion and our ethnic origin is e.g. Muslim Pakistani (Pathan), Muslim Indian (Surti) etc!

I am half Arab (Father side) and half Pakistani - Pathan (Mother side)!

Caste system is things they used to do in the times of Jahiliyya and it has no place in Islam! Its wat the hindus believe in and is very prominent in Asian culture - astagfirullah!

It all stems from your social background - its like working, middle and upper class - but islam treats everyone equally!

Here we are discussing our ethnicity which means which country you belong to through your generations e.g. your father, grandfather etc! So if someone lives in UK but has arab parents they are Arab and so forth!

Well my parents are from a village called Kohat which is further towards the border of afghanistan, our ancestors are from Khost In afghanistan.

It is true that they take thier culture very seriously, sometimes this is a good thing however it also has its negative side especially as we are muslims.

Culture and Ethnicity

What’s your ethnicity?
And what are the most obvious aspects of your culture, what separates your culture from other cultures?
(funny, frustrating, great aspects?)

I’m interested in cultures and different countries.

Now, talk and share.

its amazing how the land you are born (and lived the longest) it becomes your homeland, where no other country can really be compared to it.

i mean imagine if there was one land where everyone was flocking to, it would get over populated and the country would struggle to provide for its inhabitants. Although people immigrate to different countries there is always this equilibrium of out going and in coming people which maintains the population, so there is no real explosion in population growth and so the government and authorities can cope and handle any influx and rise in population.

hmmm yes i've just gone on a tangent

Its because probably due to the fact that pakistan has one of the worlds largest populations outside of its countries borders, heck there are pakistanis on every street of the world (only joking). The thing is pakistani people have a lot of friends outside of their own people and have started to integrate well and taken up good contacts. I myself are not exactly pakistani and its hard to explain

Subhanallah I looked it up and this is what i found.

Noun 1. Somalian - a native or inhabitant of Somalia
Somalia - a republic in extreme eastern Africa on the Somali Peninsula; subject to tribal warfare
African - a native or inhabitant of Africa
Adj. 1. Somalian - of or relating to the African republic of Somalia or its people or their language and culture; "Somali coffee is excellent"

source http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Somalian

and in another

noun So·ma·li [ sō mlee, sə mlee ] (plural So·ma·li or So·ma·lis)

Definitions:

1. member of people from Somalia: a member of an Islamic African people living mainly in Somalia

2. Somali language: the Cu****ic national language of Somalia, also spoken in eastern Ethiopia.5 million.

[Early 19th century. < Somali]

So·ma·liadj

source http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_18...78/Somali.html

so i guess its the same, and i know alot of "somali" that say " Im somalian"

I think it differs depending on the language...

arabi " ANA SOMALI"
english "I am SOMALIAN"
Somali "waxaa ahay somali" ( i hope i said that right)

OF course muslim are muslim first, but the topic is concerning one's ethic background and their is no harm in knowing, if one whishes to tell.

I thought I was the only one who was the result of a genetic blender effect. Looks like most of us so far are ethnic mixtures. Perhaps rather than ethnic the title should have been what culture do we Identify with. Although I live in the USA I identify more closely with Baltic and oriental cultures. Typical Texan.

There is no such thing as a single American culture as we are all a hodge-podge here. Texas for instance has distinct areas of totaly different cultures. San Antonio is essentialy Spanish, New Braunfels is German, Pan Maria is Polish, The Goliad area is now mostly Czechoslavakian, Sea Drift is Vietnamese etc.
