I love Japanese! Here's something:

Konnichi wa, watashi wa Skywalker desu. Hajimemashte.

-translation: Hello, I'm Skywalker, nice to meet you! lol

I'm an anime fan myself, so I always like picking up lines here and there.

Anyways, the original creator of this thread wanted a japanese partner or something...you can go to the site www.japanese-online.com and they can hook you up with a pen pal or something. They also give free online lessons (that's where I got that first line :P). Check it out!

they have toilets that do all sorts of things but they also have squaters.

Imagine a toilet in the ground that you have to squat over to do you business... ugh. i hate them...

It's difficult to learn though for a native English speaker, especially the Kanji :/

genki literally means 'health', but when you say 'o genki desu ka" it means 'how are you"

Like haal (in arabic) literally means 'state' but when you say "kayfa haaluk" then it means "how are you"

the 'chan' is an honourific, and the 'o' is used for respect, you could say nii-san which is higher respect than chan, or you could use the highest respect and say nii-sama.

nii = brother
nee = sister

or,

aniki = brother
aneki = sister

to = father, but cos no one speaks like that people would say 'oto-san'
ka = mother, same like the above one so people say 'oka-san'

^ the above two are more like 'dad' and 'mom' whereas the traditional way is,

chichi-ue = father
haha-ue = mother

now the honourifics,

sama: used for extreme respect
dono: used for respect
sensei: used for teachers/masters etc
sempai: used for someone with more experience than you
ototo: younger brother
imoto: younger sister
jii: grandfather or elderly man
baa: grandmother or elderly woman
oji: uncle
oba: aunty
bo: used for babies

'san' is the usual honourific which is used after those things, like oji-san, oba-san, baa-san, jii-san etc

I got an idea... some of us here obviously watch anime and j-dramas rite? So, how about putting a japanese song lyric without the translation and try our best to translate it without (i repeat), WITHOUT searching for its translation. so, i'll start.

Arigatou, to kimi ni iwareru to
Nan da ka setsunai
Sayounara no ato mo tokenu mahou
Awaku horonigai

Tomodachi demo koibito demo nai chuukan chiten de

Watashi rashikunai
