Iqbal's my fav poet. MashaAllah....his poetry is so good.

critically analyzing...nah never do that.Infact, i dont know how to do that.

What i like best about iqbal's poetry is that its much much more than just mere words......they are so inspiring........and even today, its so relevant.

*guessing , too many iqbal fans here*

Posted below, is a description of Iqbal found on another site

Iqbal
Iqbal is the best articulated Muslim response to Modernity that the Islamic world has produced in the 20th century. His response has three dimensions:
A creative engagement with the conceptual paradigm of modernism at a sophisticated philosophical level through his prose writings, mainly his The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam which present his basic philosophic insights
His Urdu and Persian poetry which is the best embodiment of poetically mediated thought, squarely in the traditional continuity of Islamic literature and perhaps the finest flowering of wisdom poetry, or contemplative poetry or inspired poetry in the modern times.
As a political activist/ social reformer― rising up to his social responsibility, his calling at a critical phase of history.

Iqbal and Bahadur Shah Zafar...sometimes way back when I was in that age :-[ ..Wasi Shah

But I enjoyed Bahadur Shah Zafar a lot slightly more than Iqbal as Iqbal's poetry was a bit difficult..with words from Farsi, Arabic etc

I liked reading Zafar becoz he was the last moghal.

I never got the cance of going into urdu literature after school. I am more towards english Literature and urdu poetry.

Could you translate me please this love poetry (i took it from an userpage):
"Paane se khone ka mazaa aur hai,
Band aankhon se dekhne ka mazaa aur hai,

aansu bane lafz... aur lafz ghazal,
Teri yadon ke sath jeene ka mazaa aur hai."

Here is my humble effort to translate it in english:

The Taste of "Loosing" is better than that of "Acheiving"
The Joy of Viewing with closed eyes is wonderful

Tears becomes the Words ... and Words become the "Ghazal (a type of Poetry)"
The taste of living with Your memories is joyful experience.

Mohabbat mujhe thi unse itni
Unki yaadon mein dil tadapta raha
Maut bhi meri chaahat ko rok naa saki
Kabr mein bhi dil dhadakta raha

Dil ke dard ko lafzon mein dhaala naa gaya
Gam ke aansuon ko aankhon se nikaala naa gaya
Usne mujhe dard is liye diya
Kyunki usse mera pyaar sambhala naa gaya

Jisne humko chaaha, use hum chaah naa sake
Jisko chaaha, use hum paa naa sake
Yeh samajh lo dil tootna khel hain
Kisi ka todkar apnaa bhi bacha naa sake

Ishq karne wale aankhon ki baat samajh lete hain
Sapno mein woh mil jaye to mulakaat samajh lete hain
Rotaa to aasmaan bhi hain pyaar ke liye
Par log use barsaat samajh lete hain

Woh keh gaye humse ki woh ab hume sapno mein hi milne aayenge
Koi jaa kar keh de unhe
Woh aane ka waada to kare
Hum hamesha ke liye so jayenge

Nasha hum karte hain, ilzaam sharaab ko diya jaata hain
Par ismein kasoor sharaab ka nahin
Kasoor to unkaa hain jinkaa chehraa humein har jaam mein nazar aata hain

Jiyo itnaa ki marnaa mushkil ho jaye,
Hason itnaa ki ronaa mushkil ho jaye
Kisiko chaahna achhi baat hain
Magar chaaho itnaa ki bhulaana mushkil ho jaye

Kitni jaldi yeh shaam guzar jaati hain
Pyaas bhujti nahin aur barsaat guzar jaati hain
Apni yaadon se keh do ki yun hume sataaya naa kare
Neend aati nahin aur raat guzar jaati hain

Tanhaaii se nahin, mehfil se dartaa hoon
Duniyaa se nahin, khud se dartaa hoon
Yun to bahut kuch khoya hain humne
Par naa jaane kyun tumhe khone se dartaa hoon

Nadiyon ke kinaare chooth jaate hain
Aasmaan se taare toot jaate hain
Zindagi ki raah mein aksar aisa hota hain
Jinhe hum chaahte hain wahi rooth jaate hain

Woh aate to hain magar tan se nahin
Baithte to hain magar man se nahin
Kaun kegta hain woh pyaar nahin karte
Karte to hain magar humse nahin

Ek din humare aansu humse pooch baithe
Hume roz roz kyun bulaate ho
Humne kaha
Hum yaad unhe karte hain
Tum kyo chale aate ho

Kalam uthai hain lafz nahin milta,
Jisko dhoondhte hain woh shaks nahin milta
Ghoomte hain woh zamaane ki talaash mein
Bas humaare liye hi unhe waqt nahin milta

Paane se khone ka mazaa aur hain
Band aankhon se dekhne ka mazaa aur hain
Aansu bane lafz aur lafz gazal
Teri yaadon ke saath jeene ka mazaa aur hain

Ishq kiya tujhse mere aitbaar hi hadd thi
Ishq mein de di jaan mere pyaar ki hadd thi
Marne ke baad bhi khuli ti aankhein
Yeh mere intezaar ki hadd thi

Mohabbat ke kuch aise armaan bhi armaan hote hain
Jaagti aankhon mein bhi khwaab hote hain
Kaun kehta hain ki gum mein hi aansu nikalte hain
In muskaraati aankhon mein bhi sailaab hote hain

Log apno ki baat karte hain
Humne gairon ko bhi aazmaaya hain
Log to kaanton se bach ke nikalte hain
Humne to phoolon se zakhm khaya hain

Agar karni thi bewafai to pehle bata dete
Duniya badi haseen thi
Hum kisi aur se dil laga lete

Phool khilna chaahta hain
Kali khilne nahin deti
Dil milna chaahta hain
Kismat milne nahin deti

Khwab ke aashiyan par bijli gira di
Meri hasraton ko khakh mein mila di
Usi bewafa ne wafa ki kadr naa ki
Jiske pyar mein humne hasti mita di

Ki log pyaar kyu karte hain kisi ko
Jab woh us pyaar ko nibha nahin sakte
Kyu thamte hain wo hath apne hatho mein
Jin hatho ko sari umr tham nahin sakte

Jab bhi koi rishta kabhi tutata hain
Pyar se thama koi hath jab chutata hain
Dil mera tujhe karke yad hota hain udas
Aur mujhse fir woh ek sawal puchta hain

Dard se dosti ho gai dosto
Zindgi bedard ho gai dosto
Aur kya hua jo jal gaya ashiyana humara
Dur talak roshni ho gayi dosto

Har khamosi ka matlab inkar nahin hota
Har nakamiabi ka matlab har nahin hota
Kya hua hum unko pa naa sake
Sirf pane ka matlab hi to pyar nahin hota

Aankhon mein aansu aa jaate hain
Phir bhi labho pe hasi rakhni padti hain
Yeh mohabbat bhi kya cheej hain yaaron

How lucky are those which never were dissapointed by love, which are not in the stage to live with memories:(

Iqbal has no match. The height of his "fikr" and grace of his presentation, no other urdu poet has these properties.

Allama Iqbal!!! booyaka!!!

-----------------------------

The culture that prevails in West,
Corrupts the heart and gaze of man
Its soil is full or stains and spots
That at leisure one can scan.

If soul of man becomes defiled,
Of conscience clean it gets bereft
It soon forgets high aims and ends,
No taste refined in it is left.
