View Full Version : Now That Would be a Shame

I wrote this a while ago but suddenly felt like sharing. Note- i was 17 when i used to sit with the kids but i'm still working on the same suras, and i'm 19 now...

There's No Shame

There's No Shame,
In me starting over,
Saying what I learned years ago,
Trying to memorize what I once knew,
No Shame-
in being-
19 years old,
Sitting with 5 year olds,
And reciting-
"Say He is Allah- One!"
There's a Little shame,
As I struggle though the ayaas,
As I stop and stutter,
As the teacher corrects me over and over,
As my voice falters,
And my mind stumbles,
And Yes! How I wish I'd done this before,
There's a Little Shame,
In learning Allah's words,
this late,
now starting to learn,
What the kids around me have mastered,
But I'm doing it now,
And there's no shame,
In starting over.
There's only shame,
For never trying,
For letting chances slip,
For ignoring His Commands,
For not learning His Words,
For not starting over.
There's only shame,
For postponing it for tomorrow.

Jazakum Allah koli khair-- and you know, one of my friends was trying to encourage me as i was getting a little depressed and she told me that in her Qur'an class, there is a 80+ year old woman, who is trying to learn how to read it properly :) Ma'shaAllah!

May Allah let us be among the ones who learn His Words and understand them.
