a friend sent me this... lets refute

Here are some questions....could you please pass this on to your friends.....the challenge is ....are we susceptible to change by keeping an open mind and accepting the truth...

Did you know that the Quran was written approximately 150 years after Muhammed died. Now Muhammad was illiterate and couldn’t read nor write so hence it is impossible for someone to copy exactly word for word without misinterpreting the concept and message especially as nothing was documented in those days. Now you and I both know that to learn something even a page it has to be read and re-read numerous amounts of times before one can memorize and then how much will one forget in your busy lives. These messages has to pass a generation as well. So was the Qumran really Muhammad’s or Gods message or was this simply a military tactic to strengthen an army and attack and conquer for power and we all know that after the book was established there were wars fought and lands invaded in the name of religion and conversion where people died/raped- what in the name of religion...please understand this for yourselves and don’t get caught in the web of deceit...save yourselves.

Another important fact-Muhammad had to flee from Mecca to Medina as his life was in danger when he tried to tell all that he saw an angel who spoke to him…keep in mind this angel would have had to speak to him for days to give him all the details and since Muhammad could not read nor write he would have had to memorize this and completely understand the concept of what was being said as per the script…this is IMPOSSIBLE…THINK FOR YOURSELVES…now as he said he saw an angel and wanted to make certain changes in the kabba ..you know remove all the statues and have just he senior most. The elders were angry and threatened and so Muhammad fled Mecca. When in Medina he formed a band of people and they raided and plundered and killed for years to become rich and until he had an army large enough to go back and wage war to Mecca. In a bloodless coup he managed to take over Mecca. This is a violent man in search for power......second only to the man who finally wrote the Quran as Gods message and then waging war in his conquests….

Here is more…..

Identified are many elements of pagan worship that Muhammad grafted directly into Islam virtually unchanged.
The symbols, the temples, the rituals of modern Islam were practiced by Polytheists before Muhammad was born. Islam is repackaged Polytheism. "Polytheism with a monotheistic veil".
Modern day...copy and paste method... so what did he really contribute... the answer is noting…please read on for the real truth…..

1) Is it TRUE- Muhammad in his youth participated in worshipping all the 360 pagan gods in the Kabah. He was influenced by the Christians ..
Monotheists who condemned polytheism and Muhammad was convinced this was wrong so he sought to reject those 360 Gods he grew up worshipping.
However, being a proud Arab bent on preserving his traditions and so started a different religion; he took the top pagan god in the Kabah called Hubal or Allah and chose this to be his monotheistic god.
Rather than converting all the Arab people to the monotheism of Christianity, Muhammad merely banished the other 359 pagan gods and chose the one remaining to be the one and only god... what Muslims refer to today as "Allah". Thus Islam was born.
Historians have identified many elements of pagan worship that Muhammad grafted directly into Islam virtually unchanged.
The symbols, the temples and the rituals of modern Islam were practiced by polytheists before Muhammad was born. Islam is Repackaged Polytheism. "Polytheism with a monotheistic veil.

2) Is this TRUE- Archaeologists contradict this claim- the “sound” Hadith itself makes it impossible for Abraham and Ishmael to be the ones who built the Kabah: "I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Which mosque was built first?" He replied, "Al-Masjid-ul-Haram." I asked, "Which (was built) next?" He replied, "Al-Masjid-ul-Aqs-a (i.e. Jerusalem)." I asked, "What was the period in between them?" He replied, "Forty (years)." He then added, "Wherever the time for the prayer comes upon you, perform the prayer, for all the earth is a place of worshipping for you."" (Hadith, Sahih al-Bukhari55:636, Narrated Abu Dhaar). This Hadith affirms that the Kaba was actually built long after Abraham and Ishmael had died. Abraham lived about 2000 BC and the Temple was built by Solomon in about 958-951 BC. This implies that the Kabah was built approximately 998-991 BC. If Muhammad is correct, then the Quran is wrong. But if the Quran is correct in stating that Abraham and Ishmael built the Kaba, then the Hadith is wrong. Yet, if this particular Hadith is wrong then this throws into question the authenticity of the entire Hadith collections, especially Bukhari's collection which is considered to be the most reliable and authentic collection

3) Is it TRUE- the Pilgrimage to Mecca: "A principal public celebration of the Arabians was an annual pilgrimage, in which tribes who shared a common bond of worship of a deity at a specific sanctuary would reunite there? A pattern of ceremonial procession around the baetyl [the sacred stone] was common, and this pattern may be seen in the surviving Islamic custom of the pilgrimage to Mecca." (Britannica, Arabian Religions, p1059, 1979) Muhammad merely borrowed this wide spread polytheistic worship style and adopted it into Islam as a central rite, same polytheistic pilgrimage under the disguise of a modified monotheism. It is true that in the hajj many pre-Islamic practices were retained, but as has been shown above, the origin of these practices is traceable to Abraham, and every one of them carries with it a spiritual significance. (The Religion ofIslam, Maulana Muhammad Ali, p. 448, 1936, Muslim).

4) Is it TRUE- Praying 5 times a day: Polytheistic worshippers prayed 5 times a day towards their local kava’s. "The Sabeans have five prayers similar to the five prayers of the Muslims. Others say they have seven prayers, five of which are comparable to the prayers of the Muslims with regard to time [that is, morning, noon, afternoon, evening and night; the sixth is at midnight and the seventh is at forenoon]. It is their practice to pray over the dead without kneeling down or even bending the knee. They also fast for one lunar month of thirty days; they start their fast at the last watch of the night and continue till the setting of the sun. Some of their sects fast during the month of Ramadan, face Ka'ba when they pray, venerate Mecca, and believe in making the pilgrimage to it. They consider dead bodies, blood and the flesh of pigs as unlawful. They also forbid marriage for the same reasons as do Muslims." (Bulugh al-'Arab fi Ahwal al-Arab, Muhammad Shukri al-Alusi, Vol 1, p 121-122, Muslim) Prior to Islam the people would pray 5 times a day facing Mecca (The Encyclopedia of Islam p. 303)
Worshippers in pagan Sabian religion that worshipped stars were "obliged to pray three times a day" (Preliminary Discourse to the Koran, Sale, 1801) At first, Muhammad prayed towards Jerusalem, but when he was rejected by the Jews, started directing hisprayers towards Mecca.
Today, monotheistic Muslims pray 5 times a day towards Mecca to Allah. Muhammad grafted this pagan practice into Islam.

5) Is it TRUE- Holy days (friday/fasting during Ramadan): Polytheistic pilgrimage required fasting for the month that begins and ends with the crescent moon for each pagan god. During the holy month of Ramadan (November) Muslims begin and end month long fast exactly the same time and manner as the polytheism that pre-dated Muhammad. Muslim practices such as gathering on Friday and the four sacred months of Islam were also pre-Islamic customs: "In Bulugh al-'Arab fi Ahwal al-'Arab, we read,'The four sacred months, Rajab, Dhu al-Qa'da, Dhu al-Hijja and Muharram, had been considered sacred during the pre-Islamic period [Jahiliya]. Raids, taking revenge, war, fighting and disputes were forbidden during them. If a man were to meet his enemy whokilled his father or brother during these months, he would not quarrel with him... During the sacred months, [the people] were under restriction not to fight or make raids, and had to remove [their] spearheads as a sign that they would avoid fighting at all costs.'Obviously, Islam borrowed the hallowing of these months from Pre-Islamic Arabsand introduced nothing new into the world." (Is the Qur'an Infallible?, 'Abdallah 'Abd al-Fadi, Light of Life, , p. 127)

*The crescent moon symbol was used since 2100 BC in paganism. Polytheism has extensively used the symbol of the crescent moon as far back as Abraham as hundreds of archeological examples verify. All the Arabs at the Kaba in Mecca worshipped the moon god Hubal. Crescent moon is the official symbol of Islam on top of every Mosque in the world and beside the Kaba on top of the Maqam Ibrahim! It is the last remaining polytheistic remnant of ancient moon worship under a new sanitized monotheistic veil.

*Pagans performed a fast walk between As-Safa and Al-Marwah. Muhammad redefined the meaning while retaining the ritual. Islamic pilgrimage requires a fast walk between As-Safa and Al-Marwah

*The polytheistic pilgrimages required throwing stones at the devil. Muhammad retained this concept where the Islamic pilgrimage requires throwing pebbles at three fixed points in Mina, which represent evil. The pilgrim throws rocks over his shoulder at the three stone pillars which he has been told will frighten away the "djinn" or demons which the stone pillars represent.

8) Is it TRUE- Allah: "The verses of the Qur’an make it clear that the very name Allah existed in the Jahiliyya or pre-Islamic Arabia? Certain pagan tribes believed in a god whom they called ‘Allah’ and whom they believed to be the creator of heaven and earth and ho

The Quran was revealed over a period of twenty-three years and was written down in its entirety during the Prophet’s lifetime, although the verses were not gathered together in one volume at that time (Al-Katani, V.2, p.384).

For the first twenty-three years the Prophet himself was the fountainhead of Qur’anic learning. Then he appointed certain of his followers to convey the message of the Qur’an after him. These were men who, having memorized the entire Quranic text with complete accuracy, were fully competent to impart its teachings. During the caliphate of Umar Faruq, the second caliph of Islam, a man who had come from Kufa to Madina told the caliph that there was someone in Kufa who was teaching the scriptures from memory. At this Caliph Umar was enraged. But when he found out that the person was none other than Abdullah ibn Masood, he regained his composure, (Istiab, Vol. I, p. 377) the reason being that Abdullah ibn Masood was one of those appointed by the Prophet himself to perform this service. Other more prominent scholars of the Qur’an were as follows: Usman, Ali, Ubayy ibn Kaab, Zayd ibn Thabit, Ibn Masood, Abu Darda, Abu Moosa Ashari, Salim Maula Abi Huzayfa.

It has been recorded in the annals of history that “when Salim Maula Abi Huzayfa was martyred, Umar felt the danger of the Qur’an being destroyed and came to Abu Bakr, the first Caliph, to discuss this” (Fathul Bari, v. 9, p. 5). Salim was one of the few surviving companions who had been selected by the Prophet himself to spread the teachings of the Qur’an. The solution suggested by Umar to Abu Bakr was to preserve the Qur’an by making a formal compilation of it in written form.

The number of transcribers who worked at different times is put at forty-two. According to Ibn Abdul Bar, Hanzala ibn Rabi was the chief transcriber. He was asked to remain in the company of the Prophet at all times (Aqd Al-Farid, v. 4, p. 114), a foolproof arrangement whereby a number of the companions possessed passages of the Qur’an in written form by the time of the Prophet’s death. A sizeable number, four of whom are worth mentioning: Abu Darda, Muaz ibn Jabal, Zayd ibn Thabit and Abu Zayd even possessed the complete Qur’an in its present arrangement.

Qur’an was thus preserved in its pristine form in the memories of tens of thousands of the companions during the Prophet’s lifetime.

Bro, it looks like this persons trying to be a pro or 'orientalist' when they don't even know why most of these acts occured.

The reason why all these acts of hajj occured was due to the fact that the arabs knew about the religion of Prophet Ibraheem, and it was because of his son Isma'eel that the (yemeni) arabs actually settled in Makkah. Because the well of zamzam was discovered there. That's how arabia/Makkah actually began, since there were no people living in that desert land since there was no water there. (therefore no life.) And the people only settled there when Isma'eel's mother Hajar found the water.

So the religion of Ibraheem was established in Makkah, and a few centuries later - a man introduced idol worship when visiting Al-Shaam [Greater Syria] who would add innovations in to the religion of Ibraheem, and due to that, the religion of the arabs was a mixture of paganism and the religion of Ibraheem. So thats one of the reasons why the arabs still performed hajj [while performing aspects of shirk within it.] And they stoned the stones because it was what Prophet Ibraheem did when he was ordered to sacrifice his son Isma'eel when shaytaan kept coming in the way to try to push him off his track to the obedience of Allaah.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 56, Number 723

Narrated Said bin Al-Musaiyab:

Al-Bahira was an animal whose milk was spared for the idols and other dieties, and so nobody was allowed to milk it. As-Saiba was an animal which they (i.e infidels) used to set free in the names of their gods so that it would not be used for carrying anything. Abu Huraira said, "The Prophet said, 'I saw Amr bin 'Amir bin Luhai Al-Khuzai dragging his intestines in the (Hell) Fire, for he was the first man who started the custom of releasing animals (for the sake of false gods).' "

A little bit of more info:
So in reality, Muhammad (peace be upon him) revived the religion of Ibraheem peace be upon him, he never brought nothing new. The arabs themselves knew that Prophet Ibraheem was their forefather.

They carry on saying that Allaah is the moon god or whatever they wna call it, but that isn't the case because the name for God in the arabic language is Allaah, since Allaah means 'the God.' (Al Illaah.) It's even stated in the Qur'an:

If indeed thou ask them who it is that created the heavens and the earth, they would be sure to say, "Allah". Say: "See ye then? the things that ye invoke besides Allah,- can they, if Allah wills some Penalty for me, remove His Penalty?- Or if He wills some Grace for me, can they keep back his Grace?" Say: "Sufficient is Allah for me! In Him trust those who put their trust." [Qur'an Al Zumar 39:38]

We also know that even christian arabs call God - Allaah. So there's no confusion.

So the main issue they had a problem with was the fact that the Messenger of Allaah called them to Allaah's obedience and that none is worthy of worship except Him.

You'll also see that these people continously try to say that the Messenger of Allaah and his companions fought alot of battles to gain wealth or booty. Whereas in reality, you'll see that the majority of battles against the muslims were due to the fact that the other people tried to destroy them first. This is proven in many battles such as the battles of Badr, Uhud, Ahzaab, Khaybar, Mu'ta, and many more - in all these battles the enemy is trying to use full force to try to destroy the believers. So the muslims fought back, and in return got the booty which Allaah has permitted for this ummah.

If the person truely is sincere, then they need to check out what Angel Jibreel [Gabriel] really brought down. Even the disbelievers at the time of the Messenger of Allaah would say he's a madman, poet, or saying stories of old - but in reality, what is the Qur'an truely calling to? It's simply calling to the worship of Allaah Alone, nowhere does it say that Muhammad peace be upon him is God, nor did Muhammad peace be upon him call to people to worship him. And if you look at the life of the Messenger of Allaah, you'll see that he lived a poor life, gave most of his wealth to the needy and poor whereas he was the king of arabia.

The issue of Sulaiman building Masjid ul Aqsaa is also a false claim since we know that it was Prophet Ya'qub [Jacob] who built it and Prophet Sulaiman only extended it. We know that Prophet Ya'qub was the grandson of Prophet Ibraheem, and his uncle would have been Prophet Isma'eel, and therefore 40years in between is the correct view. And there is no contradiction alhamdulillah.

Oh yeah, in regard to the Qur'an being written 150 years after. I don't know where the person got that claim from, since it was compiled by the Messenger of Allaah's companion himself, Uthman. This is preserved in the Museum of Turkey today:

Subhaan Allaah so much claims yet they're so weak. Alhamdulillah Allaah has given us the answers to alot of the attacks they try to use. Verily the plot of shaytan is weak, alhamdulillah. :)

And by the way bro - ignore people like this. Most of the time they just go on anti islamic sites who try to twist up many things, so if they want a real discussion - they should be prepared for it. Not just copy and paste loads of anti islamic stuff. So if someone does that - then ignore them. Unless they truely want to become muslim and need the answers, then that is okay inshaa Allaah.

PS: I just want to add in that Muhammad (peace be upon him) NEVER worshipped any idol in his lifetime, before or after he recieved the message. He even prohibited Ali ibn Abi Talib from doing so because he was under his care [as a favour to Abu Talib.]

And Allaah Almighty knows best.

Some of the Prophet's companions scribed parts and surahs specially for themselves after they had memorized it from the Prophet.
  2. Compiling Quran during the era of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq: Zayd Ibn Thabit gathered the Quran in one book. He was charged to do this by Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, according to an advice from Umar Ibn Al-Khattab. Its resource was the parts written by the Revelation scribes; so he gathered all of it in one book, the Holy Quran.
  3. Compiling Quran during the era of Uthman Ibn Affan: In his reign, the Quran was written from the main copy gathered during the era of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq. It was kept at the residence of Hafsah Bint Umar, (one of the Prophet's wives). He charged the following scribes to do it:
    1. Zayd Ibn Thabit.
    2. Abdullah Ibn Al-Zubair.
    3. Said Ibn Al-`As.
    4. Abdul-Rahman Ibn Al-Harith Ibn Hisham.
They scribed many copies of Quran, reflecting in their writing the different correct readings (Arabic accents) of it; excluding any incorrect one. It was not marked with dots or vowel points. Uthman kept a copy at Medina and sent the remaining copies to the various Islamic countries.
  1. Dotting and Vowelization. Dotting and vowelization passed through three stages:
    1. In the first stage: Dots were used as syntactical marks. This was in the era of Mu`awiyah Ibn Abi Sufyan, who charged Abu Al-Aswad Al-Dualy to do it in order to prevent people from a faulty reading of the Quran.
    2. In the second stage: Arabic letters were marked with different dotting to differentiate between them (e.g.:B, T,TH). This was in the time of Abdul-Malik Ibn Marawan, who charged Al-Hajjaj to do it. Al-Hajjaj, in his turn, charged Nasr Ibn Asem and Hayy Ibn Yaamor to accomplish it.
    3. In the third stage: Complete vowel points (e.g. dammah, fathah, kasrah) were used, in the form we are using nowadays. This method was invented by Al-Khaleel Ibn Ahmed Al Faraheedi.

As Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) grew up, he became known for his truthfulness, generosity and sincerity, so that he was sought after for his ability to arbitrate in disputes. His reputation and personal qualities also led to his marriage at the age of 25 to Khadijah, a widow whom he had assisted in business. From then on, he became an important and trusted citizen of Makkah. Historians describe him as calm and meditative.
Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) never felt content to be part of his society whose values were devoid of true religious significance. He never worshiped idols and never drank alcohol, although drinking was widespread in Arabian society at that time. It became his habit to retreat from time to time to meditate in the cave of Hira ’ near the summit of Jabal An-Nur, the “ Mountain of Light ”, near Makkah.
At the age of 40, while engaged in one such meditative retreat, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) received his first revelation from Allah (God) through the Angel Gabriel (Jibril). This revelation, which continued for twenty-three years, is known as the Qur’an.

The Quran was not written 150 years after Prophet Muhammed(peace be upon him) had passed away. Being illiterate does not make you dumb nor does it mean that your ability to memorise are somehow challenged, therefore to say remembering what was revealed before it was written down 'is impossible' is not true.

Islam was not spread by the sword. People were not killed if they didn't convert to Islam. Where is this persons evidence nevermind proof that Muhammad went on killing sprees to make his money?

1- Islam was not born like that. To even say it is a new religion is false because in fact the message Muhammad brought was the same one all the other Prophets had brought; Allah is one. There is no account of Prophet Muhammad ever worshipping idols, rather he would spend his time in quiet reflection in the mountains. I'm sure there is a thread in the refutations section of Allah actually being a moon God.

2- Which Temple? The first foundations of the Kaba are thought to have been laid by Adam or even the angels. Abraham and Ismael rebuilt it.

3- People from all faiths gather to worship God in their own way. Why hold such a common aspect of worship against Islam solely? Anyhow, it matters on what is worshipped. When pilgrims converge on the Kaba they are not there naked to circle and worship idols.

4- Muhammad didn't 'grapht' the practice from the pagans, rather it was commanded by Allah in the Quran.

5- Now we are back to talking of pagan holidays and how Islam is supposed to have 'borrowed' them. Even if the practices do overlap, what does that go to prove if anything? It sure isn't Islam equating to paganism.

6- The crescent moon is the official symbol of Islam? I never knew there even was one.

8- Were such tribes Arab?
