Im currently reading 'Don't be sad' by Aaidh ibn Abdullah al-Qarni. I have to say it is a very good read so far, im lovin it! once you open up to read it, you dont wanna put it back down! lol :D :D
and it's also so good to read when ur feeling down, it has the ability to lift you right up again so ur ---> :D again!

So yeh, i would recommend this book :)

It is a good book but it downright repetitive at some places. The scholar could have made it more flowery but I think it is ok for the general audience. And surely it gives one a ray of hope. I am still in the process of reading it. I got the English translation.

i just finished love in a headscarf... it is wonderful and it shows how arranged marriage can work in the UK... i would assume its at least a simillar process as in some other muslim countries... its contemporary and a memoir... also reading another memoir.. called the butterfly mosque... i haven't finished that one so far about 40 pages in... but its wonderful so far.

Al Ghazali - Remembrance of Death & the Afterlife
This book is incredible! It really focuses on what is certain for us all, death, and the sequence of events that follow after it. The book also gives a sense of inspiration and fear to get ourselves well prepared for the afterlife.
Its a must read! I would say though, that Al-Ghazali's books go way into depth and its not that easy to digest some of his work. But overall its a fantastic book. :)

I recently finished The Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini after having read his 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. Absolutely painful to read and I cried buckets.

Currently reading 'Abolition - The Struggle to Abolish Slavery in the British Colonies' by Richard S. Reddie. Very distressing in some parts but also a real eye-opener as to how British merchants made a fortune through the slave trade. It might come as a surprise to some to know that Barclay's bank was set up by the Barclay brothers who made millions from the slave trade. Makes you sick :heated:

here are three very concise biographies i found on Abdullah ibn al Mubarak, Ibn Taymiyyah, and Salahuddin.

i've so far read the one on ibn taymiyyah (ra) and have found it to be deeply enlightening,
the grammar and spelling aren't 100% but the article is easy to understand.

It was an eye-opener - if I can say - to learn that there have been more than four commonly known/understood madaahib (four schools).

There is another book on the same subject . 'The Four Imams : Their Lives, Works and Schools of Jurisprudence' by Muhammad Abu Zahra. It's 500+ pages but worth the read. I've read it many years ago but it is on my re-read list insha-Allaah.

The risale-i-Nur English series, I read The Gleams, The Letters, The Words, and the Rays. It is a non traditional tafsir that focuses at length at one verse or a few verses or a single topic with a few verses used to highlight the point, in each chapter, with the aim of the tafseer being to strengthen Imaan and conviction in islam in a materialist, atheistic age (though the series was written in the first half of the twentieth century, it still rings home today, and was written during a period of oppression).
