Wisdom of Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahmatullah alayh)

Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahmatullah alayh) paid a visit to Madinah where he was approached by Imaam Baakeer – who was one of the prominent Ulama in Madinah. Imaam Baakeer asked Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahmatullah alayh): "Are you the Imaam Abu Hanifah who changed the Deen of my grandfather?"

Imaam Abu Hanifah replied: "O Imaam Baakeer! You have been misinformed about me. Sit down so that I can clear myself."

Imaam Abu Hanifah: Tell me, O Imaam Baakeer! Who is the weaker sex, the male or the female?
Imaam Baakeer replied: The female.
Imaam Abu Hanifah: Tell me of the male and female: what is the portion of their inheritance?
Imaam Baakeer: For the male, two portions, and for the female, one portion.
Imaam Abu Hanifah: O Imaam Baakeer, if I were to follow my own deduction, then I would have given two portions for the female and one portion for the male!

Imaam Abu Hanifah: Which is greater, Salaah or Saum (Fasting)?
Imaam Baakeer: Salaah.
Imaam Abu Hanifah: If I were following my own fancies as you have accused me of – changing the Deen of your grandfather – then I would have made Qadah of Salaah compulsory for the woman who is menstruating and not Qadah of Fasting that she owes, seeing that we both agree that Salaah is greater than Saum.

By now Imaam Baakeer was getting excited, and he said: "Tell me more." He was deeply impressed with Imaam Abu Hanifah.

Imaam Abu Hanifah: Tell me, O Imaam Baakeer! Which is more unclean: semen or urine?
Imaam Baakeer: Urine is the more unclean of the two.
Imaam Abu Hanifah: O Imaam Baakeer, if I were to change the Deen of your grandfather Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) then I would have made ghusl compulsory after urinating and only wudhu necessary after ejection. I am only following the Deen of our Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).

Upon hearing this, Imaam Baakeer was overjoyed and kissed the forehead of Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahmatullah alayh

masha'Allah that was excellent. in shariah laws, there is only naql (to follow) and no aql (to examine).
