Lol bro Afrikaans is like a crooked Dutch if your fluent in dutch you will understand Afrikaans since those settlers originated from Holland

btw i speak 3 languages Somali,Dutch,English and in a few years time French, German and Arabic aswell insha-allah

I speak Dutch which Afrikaans is derived from, so i can read and understand Afrikaans but it's still dificult for me to produce long sentences with specific Afrikan terms which can in some instances differ greatly from Dutch words
