i have been studying urdu on my own for several years.
i wanted to type in urdu on a word document.
i can get the fonts and i can get the doc to go right to left, but either the text goes from left to right, or it is ok until i hit the space bar and then all kinds of nightmarish things happen.
any advice/consolation/sympathy?
much appreciated.
p.s. i've done the thing with regional and language settings and "set language" in word.

"you must install a arabic version of Office, or you must install the English version of Office with the Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI)".

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311015

I know of only 2 choices
  1. buy language pack from Microsoft or
  2. Buy Urdu Mahir which provides Urdu Nastaleeq script in Office XP or later. US$120/-

Individual Microsoft Office Language Pack 2007 (Arabic that works with urdu) is available for $25 from http://buy20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/...&culture=en-US

Note: Arabic has fewer letters than Urdu alphabet so it won't be a perfect solution. (urdu Mahir is a better but more expensive)

thanks - i will try this. i already have some of those fonts installed.
so it will be a completely different keyboard than the one that starts like this
ح ج ب ت ت
i may well be back with stupid questions. it's easier to type here than it is in word!
