Oaths made by Allaah...


Chapter 36 - Surah Ya-Sin [Ya-Sin]

36:1. Ya-Sin.
36:2. By the Qur'an, full of wisdom (i.e. full of laws, evidences, and proofs)
36:3. Truly, you (O Muhammad SAW) are one of the Messengers,
36:4. On a Straight Path (i.e. on Allah's religion of Islamic Monotheism).

Chapter 37 - Surah As-Saffat [Those Ranged in Ranks]
37:1. By those (angels) ranged in ranks (or rows)
37:2. By those (angels) who drive the clouds in a good way
37:3. By those (angels) who bring the Book and the Qur'an from Allah to mankind
37:4. Verily your Ilah (God) is indeed One (i.e. Allah);
37:5. Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and all that is between them, and Lord of every point of the sun's risings. (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah).

Chapter 38 - Surah Sad [Sad]
38:1. Sad, By the Qur'an full of reminding
38:2. Nay, those who desbelieve are in false pride and opposition.

Chapter 43 - Surah Az-Zukhruf [The Gold Adornments]
43:1. Ha-Mim.
43:2. By the manifest Book (that makes things clear, i.e. this Qur'an)
43:3. We verily, have made it a Qur'an in Arabic, that you may be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions).
43:4. And Verily, it (this Qur'an) is in the Mother of the Book (i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz), before Us, indeed Exalted, full of Wisdom.

Chapter 44 - Surah Ad-Dukhan [The Smoke]
44:1. Ha-Mim.
44:2. By the manifest Book (this Qur'an) that makes things clear
44:3. We sent it (this Qur'an) down on a blessed night (i.e. night of Qadr). Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship].

Chapter 50 - Surah Qaf [Qaf]
50:1. Qaf, By the Glorious Qur'an
50:2. Nay, they wonder that there has come to them a warner (Muhammad SAW) from among themselves. So the disbelievers say: "This is a strange thing!
50:3. "When we are dead and have become dust (shall we be resurrected?) That is a far return."

Chapter 51 - Surah Adh-Dhariyat [The Winds that Scatter]
51:1. By (the winds) that scatter dust
51:2. And (the clouds) that bear heavy weight of water
51:3. And (the ships) that float with ease and gentleness
51:4. And those (angels) who distribute (provisions, rain, and other blessings) by (Allah's) Command
51:5. Verily, that which you are promised (i.e. Resurrection in the Hereafter and receiving the reward or punishment of good or bad deeds, etc.) is surely true.
51:6. And verily, the Recompense is sure to happen.
51:7. By the heaven full of paths,
51:8. Certainly, you have different ideas (about Muhammad SAW and the Qur'an).

Chapter 52 - Surah At-Tur [The Mount]
52:1. By the Mount
52:2. And by the Book Inscribed
52:3. In parchment unrolled
52:4. And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels)
52:5. And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven)
52:6. And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection)
52:7. Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass,
52:8. There is none that can avert it;

Chapter 53 - Surah An-Najm [The Star]
53:1. By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes)
53:2. Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred.
53:3. Nor does he speak of (his own) desire.
53:4. It is only an Inspiration that is inspired.

Chapter 56 - Surah Al-Waqi'ah [The Event]
56:75. So I swear by Mawaqi (setting or the mansions, etc.) of the stars (they traverse)
56:76. And verily, that is indeed a great oath, if you but know.
56:77. That (this) is indeed an honourable recital (the Noble Qur'an).
56:78. In a Book well-guarded (with Allah in the heaven i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz).
56:79. Which (that Book with Allah) none can touch but the purified (i.e. the angels).
56:80. A Revelation (this Qur'an) from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).

Chapter 68 - Surah Al-Qalam [The Pen]
68:1. Nun, By the pen and what the (angels) write (in the Records of men)
68:2. You (O Muhammad SAW) are not, by the Grace of your Lord, a madman.
68:3. And verily, for you (O Muhammad SAW) will be an endless reward.
68:4. And verily, you (O Muhammad SAW) are on an exalted standard of character.
68:5. You will see, and they will see,
68:6. Which of you is afflicted with madness.
68:7. Verily, your Lord knows better, who (among men) has gone astray from His Path, and He knows better those who are guided.

Chapter 69 - Surah Al-Haqqah [The Reality]
69:38. So I swear by whatsoever you see
69:39. And by whatsoever you see not
69:40. That this is verily the word of an honoured Messenger [i.e. Jibrael (Gabriel) or Muhammad SAW which he has brought from Allah].
69:41. It is not the word of a poet, little is that you believe!
69:42. Nor is it the word of a soothsayer (or a foreteller), little is that you remember!
69:43. This is the Revelation sent down from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).

Chapter 70 - Surah Al-Ma'arij [The Ways of Ascent]
70:40. So I swear by the Lord of all [the three hundred and sixty (360)] points of sunrise and sunset in the east and the west that surely We are Able
70:41. To replace them by (others) better than them; and We are not to be outrun.

Chapter 74 - Surah Al-Muddaththir [The One Enveloped]
74:32. Nay, and by the moon
74:33. And by the night when it withdraws
74:34. And by the dawn when it brightens
74:35. Verily, it (Hell, or their denial of the Prophet Muhammad SAW , or the Day of Resurrection) is but one of the greatest calamities.
74:36. A warning to mankind,
74:37. To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins),
74:38. Every person is a pledge for what he has earned,

Chapter 75 - Surah Al-Qiyamah [The Resurrection]
75:1. I swear by the Day of Resurrection
75:2. And I swear by the self-reproaching person (a believer)
75:3. Does man (a disbeliever) think that We shall not assemble his bones?
75:4. Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers.
75:5. Nay! (Man denies Resurrection and Reckoning. So) he desires to continue committing sins.

Chapter 77 - Surah Al-Mursalat [Those Sent Forth]
77:1. By the winds (or angels or the Messengers of Allah) sent forth one after another
77:2. And by the winds that blow violently
77:3. And by the winds that scatter clouds and rain
77:4. And by the Verses (of the Qur'an) that separate the right from the wrong
77:5. And by the angels that bring the revelations to the Messengers
77:6. To cut off all excuses or to warn;
77:7. Surely, what you are promised must come to pass.

Chapter 79 - Surah An-Nazi'at [Those Who Pull Out]
79:1. By those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked) with great violence
79:2. By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers)
79:3. And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits, etc.)
79:4. And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.)
79:5. And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you disbelievers will be called to account)
79:6. On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die),
79:7. The second blowing of the Trumpet follows it (and everybody will be raised up),
79:8. (Some) hearts that Day will shake with fear and anxiety.
79:9. Their eyes cast down.

Chapter 81 - Surah At-Takwir [Wound Round and Lost its Light]
81:15. So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night)
81:16. And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves
81:17. And by the night as it departs
81:18. And by the dawn as it brightens
81:19. Verily, this is the Word (this Qur'an brought by) a most honourable messenger [Jibrael (Gabriel), from Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)].
81:20. Owner of power, and high rank with (Allah) the Lord of the Throne,
81:21. Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens).
81:22. And (O people) your companion (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is not a madman;

Chapter 84 - Surah Inshiqaq [The Splitting Asunder]
84:16. So I swear by the afterglow of sunset
84:17. And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness
84:18. And by the moon when it is at the full
84:19. You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the Hereafter).

Chapter 85 - Surah Surah Al-Buruj [The Big Stars]
85:1. By the heaven, holding the big stars
85:2. And by the Promised Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)
85:3. And by the witnessing day (i.e. Friday), and by the witnessed day [i.e. the day of 'Arafat (Hajj) the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah]
85:4. Cursed were the people of the ditch (the story of the Boy and the King).

Chapter 86 - Surah At-Tariq [The Night-Comer]
86:1. By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star)
86:2. And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is?
86:3. (It is) the star of piercing brightness;
86:4. There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.)

Chapter 86 - Surah At-Tariq [The Night-Comer]
86:11. By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again
86:12. And the earth which splits (with the growth of trees and plants)
86:13. Verily! This (the Qur'an) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict legal laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil).
86:14. And it is not a thing for amusement.
86:15. Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)).
86:16. And I (too) am planning a plan.
86:17. So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while.

Chapter 89 - Surah Al-Fajr [The Dawn]
89:1. By the dawn
89:2. By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah)
89:3. And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah)
89:4. And by the night when it departs
89:5. There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)!

Chapter 90 - Surah Al-Balad [The City]
90:1. I swear by this city (Makkah)
90:2. And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah)
90:3. And by the begetter [i.e. Adam (AS)] and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny)
90:4. Verily, We have created man in toil.
90:5. Thinks he that none can overcome him?

Chapter 91 - Surah Ash-Shams [The Sun]
91:1. And by the sun and its brightness
91:2. And by the moon as it follows it (the sun)
91:3. And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness
91:4. And by the night as it conceals it (the sun)
91:5. And by the heaven and Him Who built it
91:6. And by the earth and Him Who spread it
91:7. And by Nafs (Adam or a person or a soul, etc.), and Him Who perfected him in proportion
91:8. Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him;
91:9. Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds).
91:10. And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds).

Chapter 92 - Surah Al-Lail [The Night]
92:1. By the night as it envelops
92:2. And by the day as it appears in brightness
92:3. And by Him Who created male and female

Chapter 93 - Surah Ad-Duha [The Forenoon]
93:1. By the forenoon (after sun-rise)
93:2. And by the night when it is still (or darkens)
93:3. Your Lord (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) has neither forsaken you nor hated you.
93:4. And indeed the Hereafter is better for you than the present (life of this world).
93:5. And verily, your Lord will give you (all i.e. good) so that you shall be well-pleased.

Chapter 95 - Surah At-Tin [The Fig]
95:1. By the fig, and the olive
95:2. By Mount Sinai
95:3. And by this city of security (Makkah)
95:4. Verily, We created man of the best stature (mould),
95:5. Then We reduced him to the lowest of the low,
95:6. Save those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous deeds, then they shall have a reward without end (Paradise).

Chapter 100 - Surah Al-'Adiyat [Those That Run]
100:1. By the (steeds) that run, with panting (breath)
100:2. Striking sparks of fire (by their hooves),
100:3. And scouring to the raid at dawn
100:4. And raise the dust in clouds the while,
100:5. Penetrating forthwith as one into the midst (of the foe);
100:6. Verily! Man (disbeliever) is ungrateful to his Lord;

Chapter 103 - Surah Al-'Asr [The Time]
103:1. By Al-'Asr (the time)
103:2. Verily! Man is in loss,
103:3. Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth [i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf)which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar) which Allah has forbidden], and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allah's Cause during preaching His religion of Islamic Monotheism or Jihad, etc.).
