(رفع) – rafa’a , verb, present (يرفع) yarfa’u
Meanings
- to lift, to hoist up
- to raise, to elevate
- to erect, restore, to upgrade
Examples
wa rafa’a abawayhi ‘ala_ ‘l-‘arshi wa kharru_ lahu sujjadan
(وَرَفَعَ أَبَوَيْهِ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ وَخَرُّواْ لَهُ سُجَّداً);
”And so he lifted his parents up on the throne, and the rest fell prostrate to him…” – Quran 12:100
wa idh yarfa’u ibra_hi_mu ‘l-qawa_’ida mina ‘l-bait…
(وَإِذْ يَرْفَعُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ);
“And when Abraham restored the foundations of the house…” – Quran 2:127
Alla_hu ‘lladhi_ rafa’a ‘l-sama_wa_ti bi ghayri ‘amadin tarawnaha_
(اللّهُ الَّذِي رَفَعَ السَّمَاوَاتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا);
“God is he who has raised the heavens without any visible pillars” – Quran 13:2
