Question: What is the ruling concerning marriage to a Muslim who complies with all the conditions of Islaam but who does not speak Arabic?

Response: Marriage to such a Muslim who complies with all the rulings of Islaam is permitted even though he does not know Arabic. There is a very strong case for him to marry a Muslim woman who is an Arab, in order that he might learn the Arabic language. There would be a lot of benefit for him in such a marriage and the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) linked the acceptability of marriage to two qualities good character and sound religion. He (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said, (( If someone comes to you and you are satisfied with the soundness of his religion and his character then give your sister or daughter in marriage to him )). If then, this man is adhering to the rulings of Islaam, the marriage should go ahead, even though he does not speak Arabic. There is no objection to this happening.

Interesting thread, because I really did not think their was a difference of opinion on such a matter (I thought it never mattered what language people knew and not) - regarding language and marriage. An eye opener :P.
