Taking into consderation that they are a way to kill time, and they have no educational value would you say that playing games as in playstation games or xbox games is disliked in Islam?

I used to be a big fan of games but since have stopped playing them...but now my options are limited, i can be hard to always stay in the state of learning and reading quraan...

Don't use the word Haram so lightly. I doubt anyone on this forum is actually qualified to make claims of haram and halal. The best we could do is give advice, not fatawaa

I played playstation once around my cousin's house, he's got PS2 and it is ADDICTIVE. But, personally, I think that if you keep your duty to Allaah and do your fardh duties, then it should be ok...

Depends what the game is. Some games Id say are comparable to great literature, while others are little more than virtual pornography with guns to make it more appealing.

"Yeah, why not? Only a bit of fun". That isn't the only way to waste time. People like me waste time sitting on the sofa staring into oblivion [I like it that way]. I think it's better to spend time playing PS2 instead of what I tend to do. It's wee more creative than just pondering over the clouds. You're fingers work and you're mind's in gear, which I suppose can make it more creative and more active? No?

Well...I gotta say I'm addicted to Games, be it on the Comp or PS2, I love ma Games! But, I don't think peeps should spend too much time playing Games, once in a while is fine though! :)

I think PC games are better than console games. They are both pretty cool, but PC strategy games are actually educational and require patience and skill to play, rather than just a quick trigger finger. But they are many times more addictive, especially Civilization!

Hey!

You know how much skill is needed to beat the Halo series on Legendary?!:hiding:

I think as the messenger (p) advises.. it is good to strike a balance in your life.. make time for work, time for 3ibadah, time for your family, time for sports and time unwind the heart, time to reflect on creation!
Allah knows best

  1. The Prophet said: 'The religion (of Islam) is easy. No one ever made it difficult without it becoming too much for him. So avoid extremes and strike a balance, do the best you can and be cheerful, and seek Allah's help (through prayer) in the morning, and evening, and part of the night.' (Sahîh Bukhârî)

well said. i think some people tend to forget this.

Whats wrong with the games, if you are performing your religious obligations. Balance is the essential requirement for a healthy life :D

^ Agreed ! although the games must be within the legal requirements of the shariah law (volume muted if music is present etc etc :p)

^ Lol at yo' sig ma Brutha... I've been on LI all this time though...:thumbs_up

Anyways bruv, all I can say is that everyone works on their own levels. Some people value time so much that they wouldn't want to waste a single second of their life in Dunya doing stuff that is not beneficial to their Aakhirah...whereas other people see no harm in playing games and stuff. It's basically all down to the individual and the level of their Eemaan, how much they wanna strive for Aakhira etc...

So therefore, there's no definitive answer...all you'll be getting in this thread will just be various opinions.
