Bismillah rahman araheem

when we pray (at least in canada) we face to the east towards mecca

my question is, the earth is round, so either way you could face mecca, is it because its more directly facing?

and people who live in places like India do they face west?

I never really thought of it till recently...not sure what triggered this question
