Astagfirullah, the disrespect of it even being put up for auction makes me cry.

It's such a shame they have to treat God's word as a matter of bucks and dollas.

The only thing I can hope now is if the money goes to charity to feed some poor, starving souls rather than line some greedy business man's big fat pockets.

Sorry y'all. Didn't mean to make you feel bad.

I was actually more interested in the information the article provided. (that it was the oldest most complete copy, that it represented a change in format and some of its history and other copies.)

Maybe a Muslim purchased it to perserve it correctly.

Thanks and sorry again.

800 year old old Quran sells for record £1.1m

I say worth every penny...

Quote:
An 800-year-old copy of the Muslim holy book, the Koran, has sold for a world record price of £1,140,500 at an auction in London.

The Koran, which has been dated to 1203, is believed to be the oldest known complete copy written in gold.

The calligraphy has marginal notes written in silver.

Auction house Christie's said it was a world record for both a Koran and an Islamic manuscript. It was expected to sell for between £500,000 and £750,000.

A second Koran, a nearly-complete text from the 10th century, was sold for almost £916,500.
Both were sold on behalf of the Hispanic Society of America, and were bought by British trade buyers.

It wasnt a small price....lol

I dont really see what the big deal is. Its not the first Qur'an and its certainly not the last.

I wish I had that kind of dough to spend on books THAT rare:(

How did the original hispanic fellow aquire this museum quality treasure to begin with?.. isn't it a crying shame how much of our prized possessions Islamic or pre-Islamic have been smuggled, distributed bought and sold illicitly?

it is disheartening...

:w:
