That Salahud Deen's decisive victory at Hittin Rabiul Thaani, A.H. 583/1187 opened the way for him to recapture the rest of Palestine. Thus, within a period of two months, from July to September, he recovered all the inland cities and fortresses except Jerusalem, al-Karak, and al-Shawbak in Transjirdan, as well as some fortresses in the north, like Kawkab (Belvoir) and Safad. Later in the same year he besieged al-Quds and managed to open without blood shed. He also forgave the crusades and let them go to their home.
