I don't if this is the best place to put this or not so forgive me. I was looking for a free Image Rescue program that I can download that is not a trial version. Image rescue is a program which recovers deleted and formatted pictures from a digital camera. If any one can help that would be great. JazakAllahu kair.

I do not know of any free ones, but there are several low cost ones and some good shareware. The shareware ones need to be evaluated as often they are not full versions and some will also put a watermark on the images that are recovered.

The Lexar Rescue 3.0 is one of the best and not overly expensive. About $30 US. I believe that is about 16 GBP. or 25 Euro.

The only freeware that sounds very good is: Art Plus Digital Photo Recovery 3.1, after over 100,000 downloads there have been no negative reports sent to CNET and it has a very high positive approval rating. I have not tried it yet. But, I am going to.

It can be downloaded at:

I downloaded and am trying the free Art Plus Digital Photo Recovery 3.1, I am recovering a well used refomated Olympus 512 MB XD card. It is doing a great job. It is very slow though It seems to be taking about 3 minutes per image and I have a very fast PC

I finally stopped the program after 2 hours of running. It fully restored 2 short AVI movies I had on it and 111 JPEG images. It found traces of 1863 other images and was still running. It was not able to restore those other images. But keep in mind this is an old XD card and it has been reformatted several times.

I am very pleased with the program and in my opinion this free program is equal to any paid program for most users.

I believe it would be safe to say it will recover everything that was deleted on the last reformatting.

JazakAllahu kair Bro. The program is good and it worked fast for me BUT I am only able to view some photos not all. The file is there but when I open it gives me this remark "Photo gallery can't open this picture. This file format is not supported."
If you can help please do. All I want is the pictures I accidently formatted before. JazakAllahu kair.:w:

The problem will be if you have taken any pictures since you formated. What size card do you have and how many pictures have you taken after formating

I see the problem. A 32mb only has capacity for about 30 to 50 images that includes deleted ones. After a card reaches capacity the older deleted images are written over, in other words they are edited to be the new image.

The other files you are recovering are just the old names of the images that have been replaced by the newer one. They can't be viewed because they are not image. If you have recovered about 30 or more images you have recovered all that exist on the card. The older images were rewritten to make the newones

Sadly, once they have been written over, they become the new image and the old one is the new one. The old one no longer exists
