Well, I am Sunni. Don't know much about Shiites. Would like to know more. What I know is that they use the day of Ashura to commemorate the martyrdom of Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). AND this led to an official split within Islam(Sunni and Shiite)? What happened that day? Who killed Imam Hussein? Why did he kill him? and most importantly why this particular event led to an official split? Did the ones who later are known as Sunnis killed Imam Hussein?
I know the minority(later known as Shiites) wanted Hazrat Ali r.a to lead the new Muslim flock but the majority backed Hazrat Saidina Abu Bakar As-Siddiq r.a. But that's all I know. Is there evidence which suggest that Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) passed the leadership to Hazrat Ali r.a. What so Shiites have to back up their claim?
So you see, I have a lot of questions I want to know. So please enlighten me.
