:sl: everybody,

Many will agree with me (who have read Imam of the haramins Part 3), that there was abit of confusion with why the Shiekhs of saudi hold onto waklking sticks whilst carrying out a Khutbah.
Some belive it is the Sunnah to have a walking stick by your side whilst carrying out the Khutbah.

Is this true?

Allah Ma3akum :coolsis:

i beleive it is true, but i can't back it up yet with a hadith, hopefully someone will back me up
wasalam

Yeah, it is the sunnah to have the stick while delivering the khutba. :)

It is not only the Saudi sheikhs, it's any imam who delivers the khutba.

:sl:

I'm not sure it's a walking stick so much as it's a staff.

We didn't have one in the uni prayer room though, so the imam had to make do with grasping the microphone stand. :-[

lol

yeah.. it's not a walking stick... it's a staff..

The Arabic word for it has slipped outta my mind :(

The khatib holds the staff as a symbol of authority while reading the khutbah. I think..

By quoting the jumu'ah khutbah of Rasulullah (saw) it is not intended that people should start restricting themselves to the khutbah. The khutbah should be delivered occasionally as a source of barakah and with the intention of following the sunnah. It was the habit of Rasulullah that once all the people had gathered, he used to enter the mosque and make salaam to all those present. Hadrat Bilal radiallahu anhu used to call out the adhaan. On the completion of the adhaan, he used to immediately stand up and deliver his khutbah. Until the mimbar was not constructed, he used to take support from a staff. Occasionally, he used to place the staff against a pillar which was near the mihraab from where he used to deliver his khutbah, and then lean against it. After the construction of the mimbar, there is no evidence that he used to take support from a staff.

Of a person using the walking stick. Quite frankly, I've never really seen someone use it for a Jumah Khutbah.
