We now have 58 voters, so we can say that the poll is a fairly accurate survey.
1. Shuraim @ 29
2. Sudais @ 26
Tied for 3. A. Basit and Ghamdi @ 16
:) and every reciter has a vote now.

These recitors (may Allah be pleased with them) will not be able to save us from the hell fire.
Yes, looking up to them is good and loving them is recommended as they are ahlul Quran. Just be sure to draw the line clearly so as to not REVERE them more than the prophet.
what we should do is to emulate their enthusiasm and learn like they did. beautify Al quran with tajweed and our voices, and you will soon find out that Al Quran is not only reserved for the shuyookh or the ulamaa'.
and proclaiming one reciter is THE BEST is truly doing injustice towards the other brothers who are capable. Only ALLAH knows who's the best. I've been to many masajid where the imam reads as well or better than the whole list of reciters that we voted from.
and those recordings, if you don't mind my saying this, are so plagued with unnecessary echo that sometimes one may not distinguish a letter from the other.
Aishah (r.a) once related that the prophet read as such that one could hear EVERY letter that he read.
Putting too much echo in Quranic recitation is doing injustice towards Al Quran whose beauty comes from TAJWEED first and then the voice that Allah has given. Al Quran is not about the voice, is about preserving the rules as consistently as possible.
But, if the recitation of these shuyookh has made you love Al Quran and motivated you to memorize, may Allah reward them for using their gift. Indeed, their effort will be sadaqah jaariah and will benefit them.
May Allah make us among them. Ameen.

Yeah, he passed away back in the 80's, I think.
I only listen to him consistently. I think he's recording is good, not too much echo, in fact none at all. If you like the way he reads, you must listen to his reading in the riwaayah of Warsh an Naafi'. Masha Allah, which I believe is better than his reading in riwaayah Hafs.

Though it's too late to vote for him now, I must say that Sh. Abdulbasit Abdulsamad is one of my favorites. I stumbled upon this website, I don't know if anyone on this forum knows of it, so I'll paste the link. It being Ramadhaan the intro is the verse talking about it, and the recitation is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard. Listen and enjoy, Inshaallah. Salaam.

That's a beautiful surah recited beautifully by al-Ghaamidi, who was one of the five I voted for, by the way. I didn't know he was a nasheed singer though. My younger brother has a nasheed on his iPod thingy that says Saad al-Ghaamidi, but I thought it was some other fellow. Must have been the sheikh, I suppose. Salaam and take care.

:offtopic: I am sure they respect each other and consider the other better then the other. Dont see why this kind of conversation should continue. They are both Imams of the Haram, they deserve it and they are equal. And please dont take this in a bda way sister Ameeratul layl, but please do not type the names of these respectable imams like: shuraimeee or sudaisi. First you dont say Shiekh before their name (i do that too), but please dont say their name in that way. The are very deserving of respect and that is not the weay to say it even though you may really love them.
Just my 2 cents Inshallah.

a brother told me once that he hates SS, SAS, SB etc becasue they are too proud and the way they walk as if they own the place. he said they walk with their heads held up high, and walk as if they are so big physically
i totally disagreed with this brother because i feel these blessed imams have earned their status as imams
he said all SS and SAS do is lead, and eat as much as they can and thats why they are so fat! he said they don't do anything apart from leading, i said they have other jobs too, he said do you have any proof? do you have a picture of SS in a court as a judge?
i totally disagreed with this bro who is 30+ years old

Subhanallah! What a horrible thing to say about them. That brother should know better. What could be more blessing then leading the people in prayer in the most holiest masjid. What a hard work it is. For these shaykhs to lead the prayer is enough job for them! Sure they have other resonibilies like taking care of their families.

i really like mohammed jibreel i rate him as the best but their others i like. I also like mishary and sa'aad al ghamadi. Most of my favourite recitors are posted up except mohammed Al Barrak. Mashallah he is only 14 years old and he is from Kuwait, why is he not put up here? i sense someone who is ageist here>>>>> loool i'm kidding. Everybody i highly recommend you to listen to him on
www.islamway.com translate the page into english by clicking on the left hand side where it says other languages, click on Quran and search for him there DO NOT be distracted with other recitors lool. listen to surah Qiyammah if you can.Its really emotional.

I got to agree with u man. Shaikh muhammed al muhaisin recitation are emotional. I've noticed he cries alot when he is usually reciting Qur'an in salaat. Most Somali people I know love his qur'an recitation.

Hani ar-Refa'i may not be on the list because he's like a slow reciter who makes a frequent recitation. People don't recognize him as a great reciter. But Maasha allah he has a beautiful voice.

Why is it always Sudais?
Sheikh Shuraim, Sheikh Huzaifee, Shiekh Abu Bakr Ash-Shatri, sheikh Salaah, sheikh Jahaani then it would be Sudais.....
Sudais is a great recitoor, but he isn't the best

Mishary al-Afasy - He's the best Kuwait has to offer. He's the best Madinah had to offer aswell when he left there. So he's my best.
Sheikh Abdullah al-Juhany has a very sweet style of recitation - even for his age.

Sheikh Abdullah Awad al-Juhany is the imam of both masjid al-quba and masjid an-nabi. He moves around. He made his taraweeh debut 1426 (as you know) in makkah, and what a debut! Masha'Allah, my sister was there and she was telling me that everyone would be in tears when Sheikh Juhany recited.

Do you have the recordings of SAS when he was 22? Masha'Allah, his voice is so sweet and powerful. Now, he's beginning to lose that tone, but SS is just coming into his prime. Weird, the older he gets the better he sounds.

All the recitations i have heard of Sheikh Haani ar-Rifaa'i are in the warsh style. Its quite hard to pick up and any tajweed teacher would recommend the Hafs style to learn first.

salam,
saad al-ghamdi is the most popular recitor in my country at least..
Allah bless him with such voice - his recitation is chosen to be aired on an islamic radio here everytime before prayer; and he makes a lot of youth think that reading Quran is cool.. and listening to it is soothing. alhamdulillah.
anyway, tastes are differ.
i simply love the Quran and treasure any recitor, no matter they're known or not.
