I'm not so sure but I've never heard of Bangali being taught at an academic level, am I right? Although some Islamic Schools teach it at GCSE masha'Allah.
I've studied Urdu, Gujrati and Arabic at School/6th Form and Uni...And the ways in which they were taught varied drastically.
I mean yeah, they all start off with the basics, alphabet etc but from there its all diff.
Hmm...I'm confused about bangali though, there are several types right? Sylheti, Dhakai? And the other one, the *posh* one, I cant remem the name of it. Lol
So0o0o, what advice would you give to somebody who wants to learn it, where to begin? Is it even possible without a teacher, without it being your mother-tongue?
Helppp Min Fadhlek!? (I guess somebody could begin by teaching me the Bangali word for please )
Umm..you'd have to tell me to translate for ya if you wanted to understand the relative
Potato = aloo
Bitter gourd= khorola
Okra = Bindi
Chilli= Khasamoris
Ginger= adha
Garlic= Roshun
Bay leaf = Tez fata
Cardamom = elachi
hehehe am in the curry mood now! MUHAHAHAHA
Sis Muslim Woman, I'm not too good at the Shuddho side of things..so if you can help?
Also, I think I was talking about Handesh at one point..I've taken a picture of what it looks like..sorry it's a bit blurry
However, mum isn't givin me the recipe at the mo as she's finding it hard to believe that I want to know how to make Handesh... Is it that hard to believe I ask thee?
Oopsie..didn't realise the image was that big
Dayang...dunno what hyper means in Bangla..(mum'll probably laugh if I ask her that)
So..what about:
Amar ze khushi lager aske, ze khushi lage ami khali naste sai
(I feel really happy today, so happy I just want to dance away)
"Handesh" is made from the key ingredient "Molasses" usually found in all Muslim and Asian grocery shops, (called morsa gur in bengali ) which is produced from dates or sometimes sugurcanes. It's Black, Thick and really Sweet:
The "Handesh" can therefore be classed as a dessert (coz its sweet) but also a type of savory as its fried. (its both lol if such things exist )
To prepare the actual "Handesh", you add the Molasses syrup with Rice flour (preferably the fine one):
..adding some normal flour, say about a half a cup of milk, cocunut powder (if preferred) and then all of this should be mixed properly to produce a fairly thick light brown, smooth mixture which then is poured into hot oil, (like pakora's are) but making sure these are nice and circular in shape..fry until nice and dark brown in colour ..and voila! you have Handesh
