Please include some of the main things that seem most restrictive that are really only there to protect us

    Hi,

Fornication. Islam prohibits sex before marriage because both sides do not have any rights in this sort of relationship. The women can be used, become pregnant and would not have any moral/financial support. Dating can lead to fornication, so dating is prohibited too.

Re: Is it true that Allah sets rules to protect us?

The concept of dating...seems restrictive to outsiders..not to a Muslim that understands why. Islaam encourages marriage for all the these things are natural to humans. Marriage gives you that boundary. Dating could lead to anything...cause that involves openly mixing with the opposite gender...leads to hugs etc...I dont need to go any further with the examples. Some might not take it the whole 9 yards but doesnt mean others wont, so rules apply to everyone, regardless of that. Otherwise youll have people saying, why can so and so do it and i cant.

Same with drinking...some might not become addicts, others will. It compromises your self control..your health etc...so Allaah protects us from anything that will lead us to our harm, self destruction and corruption.

*Without Allah, without Islam, life would be meaningless. If I've ever learned patience, it's because of this. Alhamdulillah...*

So if a Muslim were to do their salaat and they accidentally got urine on their clothing during the prayer, why does that make the prayer invalid? Well, that is what I heard anyway.

Sorry for the second post but I was also wondering if the Muslims on this forum could tell me more "restrictions" that are there because Allah is trying to protect us. It really helps a lot so thank you so much to everyone who has posted so far. It really has cleared things up.

Re: Is it true that Allah sets rules to protect us?

    Alcohol - prohibited

    Intoxicants - prohibited

    Pork - prohibited

Animals to be slaughtered in a prescribed manner, or else are prohibited (unless in extreme cases)

    Fornication - prohibited

Inter-mingling between the sexes - prohibited

    Women required to wear hijab

Women required to travel with a mahram (male relative that one cannot marry, or husband) on specific distances

The requirement of witnesses for contractual agreements

    Interest/ riba - prohibited

Suspicion/ cursing one another - prohibited

Zakaat (obligatory annual payment to the poor)

These are just some of the commands of Allah, that are in place for our benefit.
    Theres many more.....

Think about the above, and contemplate on the wisdom behind each command.

    Our Creator dearly loves us.
Whatever has been commanded by Allah and His messenger (sallahu alaihi wasalam) is for OUR benefit.
    No one else.

If we cannot fulfill these commands purely out of love and reverance for our Creator - then we should perform them out of realisation that it is for OUR good, OUR benefit....and by not fulfilling these, will only lead to OUR downfall ultimately.

    Salaam

Re: Is it true that Allah sets rules to protect us?

All the good and lawful things have been made permissible, it is only Satan and our desires that lead us to want to do wrong, all the wrong things have been made forbidden for us to indulge in, and this is where the test of life lies, on one hand you have God's commandments that require your obedience for your own good, and on the other hand you have your desires and Satan trying to tempt you away from God's obedience to do evil. Our life is to live in obedience/submission to the one who made us, however Satan wants you to become just like him and wants you to think you know better than God therefore refuse to obey his commands.

Re: Is it true that Allah sets rules to protect us?

I dont think theres any need to give specific examples because ALL of Allahs decisions are there to protect us. It is all a mercy.

If we cannot comprehend the wisdom, we trust that Allaah knows better than us and we are short sighted. But the least we can say is that Allaah would protect us from Hell fire if we abide by His restrictions...
