Regarding to abdullah yusuf ali, I have to check about it first.
Regarding to celebrating birthday:
1) It's the day you remembering when you're born, so you know you're getting old.
2) It's the day to remember your mother sacrifice in delivering you as a baby as she was struggle between life and death.
3) Celebrating birthday doesnt involve party, karaoke, dancing, alcohol etc. It's just a family occasion. Just have special meals, cake (without candle, because it's unIslamic - to wish and blow the candle) and gifts from family members. We dont want to imitate the Christians or Westerners. It just a family occasion remembering a historical date important to our family.
For me it's Islamic because it doesnt violate any Shariah laws.
I've read Maurice Bucaille book (origin of man, i think), he support evolution theory but not Darwinism. It's kinda acceptable.
I've heard that Abdullah Yusuf ali (translator of Al Quran) also support evolution theory. But have to check on this.
What exactly do you mean he accepts evolution theory? That Man has a common ancestor with prime apes? If so then that is TOTALLY haram! Some even go to say that Adam and Hawwa were Neanderthals or something crazy like that! A'udhubillah, the angels would never bow to monkeys! This is anything but acceptable.

It's bid'ah (innovation). The prophet (SAW) never celebrated his birthday, are we so arrogant to sugest our birthday is important enough to celebrate while the prophet (SAW)'s birthday isn't? Certainly not. The problem nowadays with the the ummah is that we immitate too much of the kuffar and not enough of our beloved rasul (SAW). What next? Let's celebrate christmas because we kinda belive in Nabi Easa (as) (i've actually heard that one!!!).
