A lover, tired out by the tears he wept, Lay in exhaustion on the earth and slept; When his beloved came and saw him there, Sunk fast in sleep, at peace, without a care, She took a pen and in an instant wrote, Then fastened to his sleeve, a little note. When he awoke and read her words his pain (Increased a thousandfold) returned again - "If you sell silver in the town," he read, "The market's opened, rouse your sleepy head; If faith is your concern, pray through the night - Prostrate yourself until the dawning light; But if you are a lover, blush with shame; Sleep is unworthy of the lover's name! He watches with the wind throughout the day; He sees the moon rise up and fade away - But you do neither, though you weep and sigh; Your love for me looks like an empty lie. A man who sleeps before death's sleep I call A lover of himself, and that is all! You've no idea of love, and may your sleep Be like your ignorance - prolonged and deep!"
or else....he could just say to her.."look lady, u really high maintenance if u excpect me not to even get a wink, u aint THAT pretty ya no!",..n then go back to sleep.
ahh but wud ruin the lovey dovey shmuvey atmosphere....
My heart, so precious,
I won't trade for a hundred thousand souls.
Your one smile takes it for free.Rumi

Yeh, I dont think its about her expecting anything as such, and even then it's not a lot to ask. Its just the effect you expect love to have on a person. You cant sleep, cant eat...find yourself thinking about the person loads. Love really does render a person useless at times.
A man who sleeps before death's sleep I call
A lover of himself, and that is all! You've no idea of love, and may your sleep Be like your ignorance - prolonged and deep!"
Learn silence as you have learned speech.
Speech will guide you, and silence will protect you.
It seems like this poem speaks of love with Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, not the worldly love.
Prostrate yourself until the dawning light;
Sleep is unworthy of the lover's name!
He watches with the wind throughout the day;
He sees the moon rise up and fade away -
But you do neither, though you weep and sigh;
Your love for me looks like an empty lie.
A man who sleeps before death's sleep I call
A lover of himself, and that is all!
Well there's three reasons of why he shouldn't be asleep mentioned:
If he sells silver in the town, then it would be important for him to stay awake because he needs to sell his goods,
"If you sell silver in the town," he read,
"The market's opened, rouse your sleepy head;
If he is concerned about his faith, then he shouldn't be asleep but rather praying because that will prove his commitment to his faith,
If faith is your concern, pray through the night -
Prostrate yourself until the dawning light;
But if he is one who is in love, then there is no reason for him to be sleep because it is considered shameful to his lover since he is not proving that he loves her by staying awake,
But if you are a lover, blush with shame;
Sleep is unworthy of the lover's name!
He watches with the wind throughout the day;
He sees the moon rise up and fade away -
But you do neither, though you weep and sigh;
Your love for me looks like an empty lie.
mashallah overall, a very nice poem, jazaki allahu khair for sharing
^ Doubt it. because it says that she is his beloved and:
I missed it somehow.
