I decided to make a thread for those of us applying this year for University in the UK primarily (and elsewhere). Maybe we can share our anxieties, and inshaAllah joyous moments together!
I sent of my UCAS on the 14th of October. I'm applying for dentistry, with two back-up courses.
University of Bristol - Dentistry - Acknowledgment
University of Leeds - Dentistry - Acknowledgment
University of Cardiff - Dentistry - Nothing what so ever ! (anyone applying here?)
University of Bristol - Neuroscience - Interview/UCAS Open Day
King's College London - Biomedical Sciences - Offer (ABB)
The wait is killing me... I suppose i just have to concentrate on getting good grades anyways :S
It's rare to find the flamin' hot kind here either (love them, they turn my fingers red, lol), but we do get the crunchy kind, which is almost as good.
Thanks! As for ideas, I've got dozens, it's just a matter of narrowing them down, and figuring out what will actually work and what won't. Oh, and that tiny, insignificant detail of financing it, of course..
have any of your guys filled in that financial application form yet?
Dear Allah. I pray that whoever reads this message shall have your comfort, joy, peace, love, & guidance. I may not know their troubles, but you do. Please keep protecting us. Ameen.

Nope! I've kinda registered with them though...
It's just all a bit tedious I have to say...you have to fill out application first, and then get your parents to sign up as well etc

Are you talking about the PN1 form? It looks looong, but it actually isnt that bad. You find that its all simple stuff, and if youre going for non-income assessed stuff, you dont have to fill out a lot of it.

I've applied to Virginia Commonwealth University, and I'm pretty much 100% sure I will make it in for the 2009 Fall semester (considering how low the recommended GPA is). I know its a mediocre school and will most likely hurt my chances getting into a tier 1 Medical school, School of Pharmacy, or P.A., especially since I'm transferring from a Community College.
VCU is probably a good deal cheaper then the University of Virginia, but I know the quality of my education will be considerably better at UVA. I don't know if I should just finish up my credits and get my associate's degree at my community college, then apply to UVA in the Spring. Or..if I should just cut my losses and go to VCU and use every resource and opportunity and make the most of my stay there for the rest of my undergraduate schooling.

Do you feel like getting an associate's degree would be to your advantage, or just switching to a four-year public college and graduating with a bachelor's? It depends, 'cause really most schools want money and some look at your rank in your school/grade. So it depends on what you think is best.
I think American post-secondary schools focus too much on prestige, rather than whether you're getting what you paid for.
Plus, I've heard something about going to the Carribean for med school..and coming back to the US to do a residency and work.
Good luck, I'd think long and hard though. Maybe you should look into Nursing schools as well? Just a suggestion...

JazakAllah khair.
No brother it isn't. I cant' pick one. I prayed Istighfar but I'm not sure how it works.
And then I guess it's what you feel in your gut. Good luck sis.

My three top schools for medicine or pharmacy are Brown, Cornell, and John Hopkins (But I'll be happy where ever I'm accepted considering the competitive nature of getting into any school). It is really tough and any decision I make now and onwards can adversely effect my chances. If I do go into Medicine, I may look into Osteopathic schools (D.O.s), because it is slightly easier to get into and are more appealing to nontraditional students. I'll be about 26 turning 27 once if I decide on Medical school, because, ideally, I want to get my Master's Degree and spend about 2 years in the Peace Corps. Unfortunately there is a bit of a stigma attached to it, but I guess it isn't too bad considering if I decided the Physician's Assistant route I'd have to defend myself even more--because the title makes it seem like I'm a medical technician without graduate schooling. Not to sure about Caribbean schools and nursing.
It would definitely be much cheaper to stay an extra semester and get my Associates, but for various non-school reasons I want to transfer immediately. Although prestige is VERY nice, I imagine it wears off quickly and it isn't something that I absolutely require in a school, but I see no harm in striving for it.

Eek, funding is not fun!
