As requested, this is a thread where we can discuss various books and recommend books as well. For a more detailed discussion on a certain book, we recommend making a seperate thread in the Education Issues section of this forum.

Don't Be Sad by Aaidh bin Abdullah al-Qarni. Please read it - it is so helpful!
Salamu alaikum,
I have this one!! It's very good, alhamdulillah, and you can just pick it up and read it whenever you want because its in small sections, which is especially good for me as i'm not very good with reading books, I usually start tham and never finish.
May Allah reward everyone for their recommendations

That's one of the best books which I have ever encountered. The great stories and quotes of the Ulema are just magnificent. Most of them were really funny, but others made you feel as if you wanted to cry.May Allah bless brother Abdul-Malik Mujahid for his compilation Insh'Allah.
Another book I would recommend is,"The History of Islam."By brother Akbar Shah Najeebabadi and revised by brother Safi-ur-Rahman Mubarakpuri. It's 3 volumes.Currently I'm on the Second volume.
The first Volume covers:Prophet Muhammad's(pbuh) Prophethood until the Murder of Hassan(R)
The second volume covers:The beginning of the Ummayid Caliphate until the Kingdom of Safwi
The third volume covers:The Islamic Rule of Spain(Andalusiya) until the end of the Ottomon empire.
Some people think that history starts from the beginning of times, but the truth be told it began with the birth of the most noblest of the noblest Prophet Muhammad(pbuh).

if i wanna read stories of the companions of the prophet saws what is the "BEST" and most detailed book you can think of?
Brother,a great book that explains the lives of the Campanions of the Prophet(pbuh) in detail is,"Men around the Messenger,"By:Brother Khalid Mohammad Khalid and translated by:Brother Mohammad Mahdi Al-Sharif.It has about 60 different Sahaba's biographies, but it excludes the 4 rightly guided Caliphs. If you're trying to get the arabic version search for
"رجال حول الرسول"

MashAllah, this book is the translation of la tahzan written by Sheikh Aaidh ibn Abdullah al-Qarni.. It's a self-help book written from an islamic perspective. and it really does make you feel better.
The ideal muslimah is the kind of book every sister should read, and it can be read online here.
I've heard about it and I want to get it.
Just to see if it's appropriate for a family friend who has severe depression.
Asalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu,
I have this book, it is very good, alhamdulillah, and tackles lots of different problems involved with depression, and even just general worries, sadness and stress.
The book is divided into lots of small 'chapters' (I say chapters but some are less than a page, others are 3-4 pages). Some of the titles of the chapters include....
Be content with that which Allah has given you and you will be the richest of people.
Do not be sad- Wait patiently for a happy outcome
Leave the future alone until it comes
This life does not deserve our grief
Allah is All-Sufficient as a disposer of affairs
The book uses verses from the Qur'an and hadith to help people in thinking positively and realistically. There are also quotes by arabic poets and other writers or well known people.
I would definitely recommend this book to any Muslim with depression or anxiety problems or who is just prone to getting upset easily and worrying too much.
Wow, well i could reccomend alot of books. A'idh al Qarny's material is awesome, like 'don't be sad' and 'you can be the happiest woman in the world- a treasure chest of reminders'.
Oh sorry, I thought everyone knew... Maybe you'll recognise the name =)
Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips.
I don't think that's Abu Ameenah Bilal Phillips. Because for starters, i think he's jamaican.
But yeah, all of his books are top, as are his lectures and his show on sharjah tv.
