Please complete the poll to indicate when YOU are starting Ramadan (Obviously you may not be able to answer that until the actual sighting of the moon)
Can you also tell me, which ruling you follow to start on that day? (I.e. according to your masjid, or your family etc)
Thank you, and a beneficial and blessed month of Ramadan to you all!
Peace glo
Here I stand.
I can do no other.
May God help me.
Amen.
Come, let us worship and bow down •
and kneel before the Lord our Maker
[Psalm 95]
Tarweeh for us is on Friday and the next morning (Saturday) Is Ramadhan. Ive noticed the mosques down our area are doing Ramadhan on the same day, Which is rare these days!
Allah Hu Akbar. Ramadhan Mubarak everyone and may Allah SWT forgive us all. Ameen
It happened here last year as well, everyone started on the same day but for some reason the pakistani mosques finished on a different day
Ramadan Mubarak everyone, today jumuah in the afternoon and taraweh in evening gonna be a wicked atmosphere at the masjid
But doesn't that seem to be the problem?
Who decides that 'same day for the whole Ummah'? --If One Muslim saw it in any part of the world and if it is valid than that will decide the day.
Do people go by the sighting of the first moon in Mekka? Or in their own country? --the answer was in the post. Any part of the world.
Do they go by the sighting with the human eye? Or with modern technology? --human eye agreed by all. Some disagree using high modern technology.
Or by the lunar calendar, regardless of whether the moon has been visible or not? --it should be sighted by someone Believer agreed by all. Some agree any good Trustworthy carecter can be taken as a witness.
There seem to be too many different possibilties to determine one rule.
I was fast today. But I broke it. When i have valid information that the people who fast toady use calculated lunar calendar to start fast. Which violate the Quran/Sunnah .
InsAllah i will fast from 22 aug (Actually max time it match with the Saudis)
I'm a bit confused about when the fasting starts/started.
I called our mufti here in Estonia yesterday and he said we should be fasting from today.
But I didn't check last night if the crescent was visible.
Does anyone know if I should now break the fast and see if I can sight the moon tonight?
Or it's no harm to continue fasting even when there's a possibility that it may not be the right day?

True. This is why most scholars advocate unity for a community over unity for the whole ummah. So the more correct opinion according to scholars is to follow what the local Muslims are doing.
BUT, this is always a sore issue for Muslims and we don't want to turn this into a debate thread, because none of us have the requisite knowledge for doing so.
Alhamdulillah!!!! the moon has just been sited here in South Africa!!!!! first taraweeh tonight and first fast tomorrow! May Allah accept from us, ameen!!!!
I'm in Kenya. The moon has been sighted in some areas here. We're starting on Saturday, 22nd of august. Thats tomorrow. Ramadhan Karim to you all. May Allah (SWT) protect us all and accept our fasts.
