Re: So do we start fasting when fair starts OR sunrise???
I always start it at fajr
Jabir bin 'Abdullah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:'A slave (of Allah) shall not believe until he believes in Al-Qadar, its good and its bad, such that he knows that what struck him would not have missed him, and that what missed him would not have struck him." (Jami 'at Tirmidhi)
Re: So do we start fasting when fair starts OR sunrise???
Today I woke at 4:30 AM and fajr starts at 4:00 AM. It is still pitch dark. My mom said you know what is good waking up this early? I replied to her, "What?". She said that you can go ahead and drink and eat and I said to her no I cannot. Fajr started so i cannot..she said so what, you have not seen the light yet I said to her..no I cannot eat or drink when fajir starts. Lo and behold this topic is opened too hehe.

(The Book of Fasting)
CHAPTER: THE TIMING OF FAST BEGINS WITH DAWN
No. 2396
'Adi b. Hatim (Allaah be pleased with him) reported that when (this verse) was revealed:" Until the white streak of the dawn becomes distinct from the dark streak" (ii. 187) Adi b. Hatim said: Messenger of Allaah, verily I keep underneath my pillow two strings, one white and the other black, by which I distinguish night from dawn. Upon this the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: Your pillow seems to be very large. For the word khait implies the blackness of the night and the whiteness of the dawn.
