Let me ask a different way.....We Chritians have whats called "Bible study", where as a group of us, usually 12 too 16 meet after church or anyday we set, to discuss certian aspects of the Bible, Usually a single chapter in the Bible in depth.
I will give an example:
Every monday i go to "Bible study fellowship" for men only. They do have a womens one seperatley.
This orginazation is world wide, meets at the same time everyday all over the world (depending on time zone) and studies the same lesson everywhere. This year we are doing the book of "John".
So i was wondering if Muslims have something similar to this?
If you do, is it possible for me as a Christian to sit in? Just to listen, for purely knowledge reasons?
We actually have had a couple of Muslims, who we le sit in on our discussions just so they could learn or study. We are happy to do that with no intentions attatched.
If the answer is no, i understand.
Just wondering.
Thank you for your replies
God be with you all.
P.s. It may be a bad question, so you don't have to answer if you don't want to.

Of course Muslims have many Qur'an study groups, but usually these are small group with 10-20 participants. And the place for Qur'an study is not always in mosque, usually in house of one participant.
And usually these groups are not mixed groups, but men only or women only.

Oops, I think I say 'usually' too much.
Why is that saying too much?
Thats how we do it too, usually we choose a diferent participants home to meet in.
And we don't have mixed groups either.
How would i find a group to sit in with? Am i allowed to?
Can I just contact a Mosque?
Thanks for the reply
God be with you.
P.s. I am not looking for anybody to post personal info or addresses, so please do not do so. I would rather just find out how I could do this on my own accord. Thanks again.

so it's "Church" on Sunday, Bible Study on Monday?
you forget, we have Salaat 5 times a day. after the morning prayer, Fajr, many Masaajids have some form of lesson, whether Qur'an pronunciation, Tafseer or a study of Prayer [Salaat].
between the sunset prayer, Maghrib and the night-time prayer, Isha, there can be a set of revolving classes on different days, Tafseer on one day, Seerah on one, woman's class on another, kids or family night on another.
i reckon it wouldn't be easy for you to keep up. you know, too many prayers! maybe just ask a local Imam for some one on one time with him or someone that he suggests.
it would be easier to just take Shahadah [become a Muslim ], attend as many prayers as you can and hit as many lectures as you can.
OR, maybe just tell us what specific area you want to look at first and we can post some lectures for you.
Had the non-believer known of all the Mercy which is in the Hands of Allah, he would not lose hope of entering Paradise, and had the believer known of all the punishment which is present with Allah, he would not consider himself safe from the Hell-Fire http://www.muftimenk.co.za/Downloads.html

Wait, I think you asked about Qur'an study group that similar with Bible study group in Christianity. I mean, recite Qur'an and study about Qur'an, hadith, Islamic knowledge. In my place Qur'an study group like this is "Majelis Ta'lim". And of course we have many "Majelis Ta'lim".
But we are really sorry, you cannot join in Majelis Ta'lim because this is only for Muslim. However, you can visit and watch as a guest.
And, where you can find Qur'an study group near your place ?. Don't ask me, bro, I am not in U.S.
Hi,
I think there's one major difference though. In Islam, we have a strict set of rules on exegesis (tefsir). That means it's not allowed for muslims to explain verses from their own personal opinion. Verses of the Qur'an can only be explained by explaining a general verse with:
1) another more detailed verse on the same subject
2) hadeeth (the words prophet muhammed said)
3) literal explenation of the arabic meaning
So when a group of Muslims come together for Qur'an study, then it is either a group of students who follow a class rom a scholar, or a group of people who memorize teh qur'an toghether, or a group of people who practice the correct recitation of the qur'an. It is never a peer-to-peer group where they tell eachother their own interpretation.
Ps, if you are looking for Exegesis of the qur'an, you can find that (in english) here: http://www.tafsir.com/
brother instead of study groups i would suggest you to pick up an english version and read it . the fact is most muslims do their quran study at mosques when they are children and then onwards they read it by themselves or with their family. ( atleast thats the case in india )
WE have study groups here too but they are very few and private. In US it might be different. If you tell your lcoation may be we can search on the web .
PS: No its not a bad question , its duty to of every muslim to spread the message
