I usually set targets/task according to priority and also assess how much time i might/may need to complete a set task (all in my head). If i don't know how much time a certian task, for example memorising a chapter of a book will take, i usually carry out a preliminary test by timing myself first. All this information is then fed-back to my brain.
It's a little weird but saves a lot of time and keeps me on track.
I usually divide my day up into sections, 8-12, 12-3, 3-6, 6-9 and then set goals of what i need to get done within that time slot. If a task is more time consuming then it may take more slots. All distractions, FB/forums/ET/etc comes after 9pm, before 8am or during breaks only
