His name is Ersin, he is a Turkish Muslim teenager with a very rare condition. He is paralysed since childhood and cant move his body from the head down, and wheelchair bound. He can only move his head slightly and his hands, he cannot lift his arms.
I've known this brother since May last year and we've been speaking everyday thru MSN. As you can imagine, it is a real effort for this brother to type on a keyboard with his condition, yet he never complains - not even once have I heard him complain of his condition... And he's heard me complain about this that and the other - a lot. I feel ashamed.
This week, he was rushed to hospital in emergency because he was experiencing very bad breathing problems. He will now have to be on specialised breathing equipment and this saddens me to no end. If I'm to be honest, ever since he told me this news yesterday, I have been in bits and pieces. My tears won't stop when I think about him and even now as i write this, I am in bits again.
Brothers, sisters, if you know this brother like I do, you will know a PURE heart. One that is blessed with love for all of humanity. You cannot believe some of the moments I've had with this brother. Once he asked me "I can't pray, will I be punished?" brothers, sisters, this one question broke me - even though I know the anser is "no, you are exempt from punishment on this" his question, his desire to make salah, is what broke me...
...Once when I was in jamaat, in Wembley masjid, I saw a man in a wheelchair being wheeled in to the masjid for salah. The man was paralused also, and seeing his desire to worship Allah ensured that I was in tears thru the whole of that salaah - it was beautiful to see that this paralysed man, wanted to offer worship to Allah in the holy month of Ramadhan... I remember thinking all those years ago, that if i ever got the opportunity to meet someone like that again, I will befriend them.
Allah gave me that opportunity in May last year. When I got to know him, I had no idea of his condition till weeks later - when he confided in me. I have never met him in person, as we are in different countries.
18 year old Brother Ersin is amazingly intelligent and gifted with computers, and is like a beautiful personality that will make you wonder at the mercy of Allah in awe. We think we have problems, but match them up against his daily struggle and our problems seem superficial in comparison.
All I can tell you is that people born with his condition have a low life expectancy. And now, with the breathing difficulties, and the need for specialised breathing equipment - ... Well.
Please my dear brothers and sister. I have asked you for nothing before, and I promise I will ask you for nothing after this, all I am asking is that you remember Brother Ersin in your duas, and ask Allah to give him shifaat. And that Allah accepts him and forgives him any sin that he may have. Ask Allah to heal him. Allah has power over all things, nothing is impossible for HIM.
