I've fasted for a good 12 years, but for our family, fasting means 'to not eat or drink' i.e. the praying part is absent. U have not believed for a while now so i'd rather not starve myself all day for a whole month this year.

I've learned that prayers are necessary for our good deeds to be registered. It's the most important tenant in Islam. So its like they haven't fasted at all. Fasting is more than just abstaining from food and drink. It's sad that your family is not religious. May Allah guide you and them.
