    Let's see what our Malaysian members' views are on the issue of religion in their country's politcal structure. Non-Malaysians are also welcome to express their views.

    Nay, they have no firm belief.”

    My opinion is that there are two ways to set up an Islamic state;

    Socially
    Either you don't vote. Because of the corrupt government, the Islamic opposition is going to lose anyway everytime there's election. So what you do? Educate yourself more in religion, teach your immediate family, teach your friends, educate them about how religion must change people into God-fearing individuals, moral individuals, hence, essentially good people. Naturally the people will work towards having the nation governed by truly, Islamic laws. Join Muslim NGOs towards these goals. What is important is attitude, essentially, your Islamic attitude.

    Politically
    Or make sure you know who's your voting, his Islam, his moral behaviour, his character. If you vote someone who's gonna turn around and belittle Islamic laws, handle corrupt money laundering only to benefit himself and his families to your detriment, in the end you'll going to have to answer all these charges in front of Allah and He will ask you, "Why did you put these types of people up in charge of yourselves?"

    If the people really wants Islam to rule over the land, however cheating the corrupt government maybe, Allah will give us victory and make us prevail over oppresive secularist government.

    In the end, what is important is essentially your Islamic attitude. If you see on one side, a Nationalist supporting secularist party backed by non-Muslims who don't give a **** about Islamic laws, who generally wants Islam to be on the same par as the other religions, and on the other side an Islamist who can lead people in prayer, really honest, fears Allah, fights for the dignity of Islam and shariah, then you have the duty to support the Islamist, as a Muslim should.

    Just because people are muslim doesn't mean they have to think increased 'Islamic influence' in politics is a good idea.

    That aside, never confuse the party label with the reality. Whichever party it may be, it's primary purpose is to get it's people into power, rather than somebody else's so those people can run the country concerned in the way they see fit; not to pursue ideological dreams further than is convenient. Ideology is always the first thing to be dumped in favour of political expediency and preservation of power.

    I know nothing about Malaysian politics, of course, but I gave up worrying about ideology years ago. I always vote for the people I consider most competent at running the country without messing things up. You never get two 'good' choices and one is rare enough; most often it's just picking the lesser of two evils.

    I'm a firm believer in the old saying that "anyone who wants political power should, on no account, be allowed to actually have it"!
