You are welcome to our 3eed cookies, I never eat them since they are made with ghee which I find appalling in taste and scent.. I bought me some 'Torta'

img_3977-1.jpg

they are made in Seville, the Islamic part of spain, they taste absolutely amazing.. they have olive oil and anise and are lightly sugared

.. I like to couple them with tea, they taste so much better to me than cookies.. you should try those..

:w:

Did they have ghee in them? lol

yeah that is how my mom makes them.. people think ghee is natural.. not sure what it is, I think it is made of the stinky hooves of stinky barn animals, I mean what else could it be? I can't think of anything else this stinky.......

Hmm....

*Googles "Ghee"*

Ah, I don't think I've ever tried anything with Ghee in it, so I have no idea how it would taste/smell... It doesn't sound particularly appealing though. :p

The Torta pics look gooooood... but I feel like they might be kinda hard to find around here... :(

recently their burger has shrunk in size, without a large meal your basically walking away still hungry

:haha:
al7mdlillah.. what the heck is it? I just can't stand it.. everyone says it is vegetarian and natural, but I think they put a spigot in animal hooves and drain it out.. ;D

your wife will appreciate that^ :p

Yes I hope she does. Better start learning now!

I ate from there 12 years ago. It was just the once. My cousin took me. I was 10 years old so didn't have a choice.

I could never eat from there or any place a non-Muslim owns. Makes it worser when non-Muslims serve you. Like you said they probably put everything in the oil even haram stuff. What Halal stuff could they possibly sell?

Question to sister Lily - Am I right in thinking your mum makes all this brilliant food? I honestly thought you cooked it.

Back to the ghee, I just has a look in the kitchen and we have some too 'Pure Vegetable Ghee'. Apparently it has No Cholesterol. Suppose that is a good thing.

You need to know that there are two different types of ghee, which are two completely different things.

Real ghee, what the original ghee was, is clarified butter.

"is made by simmering unsalted butter in a cooking vessel until all water has boiled off and the milk solids, or protein, have settled to the bottom and a scum has floated on top. After removing the scum the cooked and clarified butter is then spooned off or tipped out carefully to avoid disturbing the milk solids on the bottom of the pan. Unlike butter, ghee can be stored for extended periods without refrigeration, provided it is kept in an airtight container to prevent oxidation and remains moisture-free. The texture, colour or taste of ghee depends on the source of the milk from which the butter was made and the extent of boiling/simmering."

From memory this ghee smells like melting butter, but a much concentrated version of it, but it was many years ago I smelt it, so I could be wrong.

Back to the ghee, I just has a look in the kitchen and we have some too 'Pure Vegetable Ghee'.

The other so-called ghee is vegetable ghee:

"Indian restaurants and some households may use hydrogenated vegetable oil (also known as vanaspati, Dalda, or "vegetable ghee") in place of ghee for economic reasons. This "vegetable ghee" is actually polyunsaturated or monounsaturated partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, a trans fat."

That's the ghee that normally lets biscuits and things hold their shape really well, because of the hydrogenation. I think there may be veg ghee available without hydrogenation nowadays, but using fats such as palm oil, which is a highly saturated vegetable fat, that lets things hold their shape well.

Apparently it has No Cholesterol. Suppose that is a good thing.
No, not necessarily. The main source of cholesterol in the body is not found in the food we eat, but is synthesised in the body from saturated fats. Look at the container, does it tell you how much saturated fat it contains? That's the real figure of interest.

Sis τhε ṿαlε'ṡ lïlÿ, look on your mums ghee container and see whether it says pure butter ghee, or vegetable ghee, and see if it has any listed ingredients. then you'll know which one she's using.

Wikipedia also said this: "Several cultures make ghee outside of India. Egyptians make a product called سمنة بلدي (samna baladi, literally meaning "local ghee"; i.e. Egyptian ghee) virtually identical to ghee in terms of process and end result."

samna baladi just says samna baladi on it and my mother swears it is the healthiest thing.. it doesn't smell like melted butter.. it smells of animal  and I don't believe it is veterinarian as she alleges .. first time I smelled it as a child, it smelled so queer to me, I kept insisting it was the smell of a pig, even though I'd never seen or smelled a pig on the account I was in the old country and there were none around.. just smelled foreign and freaky and animal like...

What she didnt tell you is where they extract subag from..shes hiding the details!

subag can be extracted from the flappy bit at the back of the sheep

the flappy bit at the back is called buddy,if eaten it will give you a big bottom within a two weeks duration which makes perfect sense from a medical/scientific point of view,it also has other benefits

EID MUBARRAK PEOPLE!
