Show Me The Place Where You Were Born?show Me Your Village!

Here are some pictures of the area in Connecticut I grew up in. I took all of these pictures last week.

This is some scenes of what was my grandparents farm and were I pretty much grew up. I spent my summers and school vacations working the farm from the time I was old enough to walk. On the weeks and months I was there it was wake up at daylight and go to bed at sunset. There was always some field work to do. Planting, plowing, weeding, milking cows, etc. When I was a kid all of this was open fields and either gardens or pasture or fruit orchards. My Grandparents have died many years ago and my cousins now live on the farm, they have built houses and no longer farm it. But, walking around brought back many old memories. the old farm house is now long gone. But here is where I grew up.

These old stone walls were all handmade over several generations, The farmers would use the stones cleared from the fields and pile them up making the wall. Connecticut is very rocky and every time you plow there are more rocks. This particular wall my grandfather started, then his kids and then my generation. I put many rocks on that wall. there are sever miles of stone wall scattered throughout the old farm. Some were already over 200 years old when My grandparents came to the US.

This used to be my favorite hill to sit on and just relax watching the clouds. One of my cousins dug up all the sand and rocks to use for making the concrete he used to build the foundation of his house and driveway.

This buildings are a couple miles from the farm, they were houses for early factory workers. The were built in the late 1700s CE. The house I actually grew up was of the same type and built at the same time.

This is one of the oldest factories in the US. the workers for it lived in those houses. I really don't know what it made . I believe it was Barrels and wagon wheels. In 1854 it started making Drums and still makes them.

This is just some scenery around the area, all are within 10 miles of the old farm.

These pictures are in Winsted Connecticut. About 10 miles from the Farm. the old factory buildings were textile mills built in the early 1800s. In 1955 Connecticut had a huge flood and those buildings were underwater. the outside walls held up, but the interior is destroyed. they have been vacant ever since.

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Which ranges from a beautiful business section, to terrible ghettos in the housing areas:

I was born in this country in Africa called Tanzania where my dad was stationed to work for my home country's embassy, I was told I lived there for the first 40 days of my life.. there are a few photos of my family in there, but none of me, though they all promised me that I was dipped into the Indian ocean so I'd not be jealous of my brother and sister. I don't know much about the country save for the photos and would really actually appreciate if there are membershere from Tanzania who would tell me more about it. thank you and Jazakoum Allah khyran

Purest Ambrosia,

Are you by any chance an East African of South Asian decent? Many of my friends hail from Tanzania and surrounding East African countries but come from South Asia. I'm just wondering. It's kind of weird because I just watched the Last King of Scotland, which kind of shows the perils they went through the reign of dictator Idi Amin. I'm glad to know that there is at least one East African around besides me. :sunny:
