Narrated Hakim bin Hizam (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):
The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "The upper hand is better
than the lower hand (i.e. he who gives in charity is better than him who
takes it). One should start giving first to his dependents. And the best
object of charity is that which is given by a wealthy person (from the
money which is left after his expenses). And whoever abstains from asking
others for some financial help, Allah will give him and save him from
asking others, Allah will make him self-sufficient."

SAHIH BUKHARI HADITH – CHAPTER 2 BELIEF – HADITH # 20
By ulema, August 27, 2014
English:
Narrated By ‘Aisha : Whenever Allah’s Apostle ordered the Muslims to do something, he used to order them deeds which were easy for them to do, (according to their strength endurance). They said, “O Allah’s Apostle! We are not like you. Allah has forgiven your past and future sins.” So Allah’s Apostle became angry and it was apparent on his face. He said, “I am the most Allah fearing, and know Allah better than all of you do.”
