I'm not sure but looking at the picture and their various types and sizes, it seems like those lanterns were used in the olden days for lighting.

I thought so too, maybe they just decided to leave them there.
I always used to think the Ka'aba was empty, I didn't think it would have anything inside.

I think, most probably those lanterns were Waqf for the Ka'bah. Waqf items cannot be removed from the Masjid (or the place where they were made waqf).
