Two social workers in our team are off sick with suspected swine flu. (According to the latest health guidelines here in the UK antiviral drugs are prescribed by symptoms alone, rather than waiting for confirmation through lab results)
More worryingly our special needs school has been affected too. I worry about those guys, because many children are profoundly and multiply disabled, and many have additional health problems.
Please keep them in your prayers.

Swine flu is nothing to fear of if you are healthy. It's just a bloody cold and fever that can be cured by a prescription medicine called "Tamiflu." Count yourselves lucky it isn't a bird flu strain!
dont take the sham for a vaccine. you really expect there to be a vaccine so fast to a disease that is quite new and unlike other things they have seen? and you expect vacines to be ready by september to this disease that really got looked into by mid april???? :
MashAllah nice links. Yes another virus but so far only found in Canada may Allah cure this virus before it becomes a pandemic like the swine flu. Ameen. I think all countries should be cautious because the swine flu did start in Mexico and now it is known in almost all countries, likewise the new virus in Canada can also spread.

It started in Mexico, but it came to Malaysia from USA, Australia, NZ and the Philippines.... sooner or later it'll come.... I am so afraid if something like SARS happen again... we're traumatised by it.

Swine Flu has been proved unstoppable in todays papers. The so called vaccine is now being given to health workers over old, young people. So sad.
Health workers are usually prioritised for the first vaccinations. That makes sense really, because they are the ones who will provide medical care for the rest of the population. They are also the ones who have contact with people with severe health problems ... and they don't want to transfer potentially dangerous viruses onto them.
So vaccinating health workers first is in the best interest of everybody really.
Vaccinations aren't expected to be ready here in the UK until late August.

it doesnt sound far fetched to you that a vaccine is already ready to go only a few months after this unheard mutated virus popped on the scene? and it doesnt sound far fetched to you that the people in charge of the vaccines are the same company thats been caught with bad vaccines, mixed with flu viruses' themselves! a near impossibility!
which one really sounds far fetched. you got to be the most gullible person or people to believe all of the above.
furthermore why do we even need a vaccine? this virus hasnt killed that many ppl, most ppl seem to be just fine with medicine we already have, why get a vaccine?
I heard yesterday that the WHO is holding back on the H1N1 (let's call it by it's proper name, swine flu sounds so unpleasant) vaccine, because they want to run more tests to ensure it is safe.
Yanal, I don;t know what the vaccine is you are talking about, but it cannot be the H1N1 vaccine - because that is still being produced.
Prince, I don't think it is very complicated to produce a vaccine from an existing virus. The time-consuming part is to 'grow enough of the stuff' for millions of people and to run tests to make sure the vaccine is safe (i.e. it aids the body to produce the right anti-bodies, without causing the illness in the recipient)
I am trying to read up on how live vaccines are produced, but it is taking me some time.
Perhaps Skye knows more?
