    Nelson Muslims Present:

    Preparing for the Final Journey

    Silverman Hall, Pendle Street, Nelson
    10th August 2008
    3.30pm-5.30pm

A course for WOMEN ONLY, taught by two sisters on how to wash & shroud the deceased. Demonstrations will be given through the use of dummies, and there will be a question & answer session on deaths and burials. (So start noting down any questions!) If time permits, attendees may also have the chance to try shrouding the dummies themselves as practice.

Life and death is in the Hands of Allah swt. The knowledge of what to do lest a loved one departs this world is obligatory on all members of the community.
Ask yourself, if a family member or friend passed away tomorrow, and you were left with the responsibility of giving them ghusl – what would you do?

Please pre-book your place in advance by calling 07872122564 or emailing [email protected]. More info @ www.nelsonmuslims.co.uk

Tickets are £1 each (limited seating)

    Other info:

    - The session will be taught in English. However non-English speaking participants are also welcome, as the practical demonstration will be understandable to all insha Allah.

    - Please dont forget to bring pen and paper to make your own notes! Handouts will be provided on the day, though you may find your own comments to be more useful in some matters.

    - Shroud packs/kafan will also be available to buy on the day.

Venue: Silverman Hall, Pendle Street, Nelson, Lancashire, BB9 7NH
    Date: Sunday 10th August 2008
    Time: 3.30pm to 5.30pm

Please forward on for the benefit of all

Brief Notes: ‘Preparing for the Final Journey’

A talk given by sister Zahida and Sister Surryiah - Sun 10th Aug 2008

Every soul shall taste death, and you shall only be paid fully your reward on the resurrection day; then whoever is removed far away from the fire and is made to enter the garden he indeed has attained the object; and the life of this world is nothing but a provision of vanities.Surah Al-Imran Verse 185

What to do when death occurs:
    - call doctor to confirm death
    - notify the imam to prepare for Salat-ul-Janazah
    - call Funeral Directors and make sure there is a shroud prepared for the deceased

What to do in concerns of washing the deceased
    - remove clothing (cut carefully)/jewellery from the deceased
    - ensure privacy and modesty for the deceased is kept at all times
    - Ghusal
    - intention (niyyah)
    - stages of washing

Perform Wudu on the deceased. Perform Ghusal on the deceased. On the last Ghusal- add camphor. Remember! No idle talking whilst washing the dead!
Note: women who are washing the deceased should not be in a menstrual or janab state (must be in wudu)
Note: the women/men who perform ghusal must cleanse and shower themselves before shrouding the deceased. (i.e. those who wash the body, either should not shroud the dead or should do complete ghusl before shrouding as they are considered impure until they do ghusl)

*Every Muslim is advised to have a shroud in preparation for death, from their own allowance*
Females have 5 pieces within their shroud. In every piece the right side of the cloth should go over the left side. Shroud includes:
    - 1- 6 ties
    - 2- 2 ‘envelopes’
    - 3- 1 shirt/kameez
    - 4- 1 waist wrapper
    - 5- 2 loin cloths
    - 6- 1 scarf

3 things which benefit the deceased:
Abu Hurayrah rahimahullaah reported that Allaah's Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam said: "When a human being dies, all of his deeds are terminated except for three types: an ongoing sadaqah, a knowledge (of Islaam) from which others benefit, and a righteous child who makes du'aa for him." (Muslim)

    Salaatul Janaazah
Make the Intention for Salaatul Janaazah
First Takbir: raise hands to ears and then fold
Read Sana (those not following Hanafi Fiqh recite Surah Fatihah instead of Sana)
    Second Takbir: Recite Darood
Third Takbir: Read dua for deceased ( see next page for dua’s)
Fourth Takbir: Tasleem – say turning your face to the right, then the left “assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah”
*NOTE: No Ruku, Sujud, Adhan or Eqama. All is spoken quietly except the Takbir and Tasleem.
*All conditions are required in Salat ul Janazah i.e Tahara, Wudu, clean body and clothing, intention and direction of Qiblah.
    Janaazah Dua for an adult
“Allahumm-aghfir li hayyina wa mayyitina wa shahidina wa gh'ibina wa saghirina wa kabirina wa zakarina wa unthana. Allahumma man ahyaitahu minna fa-ahyihi 'alal-Islam wa man tawaffaitahu minna fa-tawaffahu 'alal-Imam”
Oh Allah! Forgive those of us that are alive and those of us that are dead; those of us that are present and those of us who are absent; those of us who are young and those of us who are adults; our males and our females. Oh Allah! Whomsoever You keep alive, let him live as a follower of Islam and whomsoever You cause to die, let him die a Believer.
    Janaazah Dua for a boy
“Allahummaj allu lana faratan waj alhu lana ajran wa dhukran waj alhu lana shafi ‘an wa mushaffa’ah”
O Allah! make him our fore-runner and make him for us a reward and a treasure and make him one who will please for us and accept his pleading
    Janaazah Dua for a girl
“Allahummaj alha lana faratan waj alha ajran wa dhukran waj alha lana shafi atan wa mushaffa’ah”
O Allah! Make her our fore-runner and make her for us a reward and a treasure and make her one who will please for us and accept her pleading.

    Mourning the Dead
Expressing grief by wailing (mourning in a loud voice), shrieking, beating the chest and cheeks, tearing hair or clothes, breaking things or scratching faces or saying phrases which makes one lose their faith is PROHIBITED in Islam.
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “The deceased suffers when someone wails loudly.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

    WassalamuAlaykum

P.S JazakAllah khayr sis for the notes through email, I didnt actually attend
