This is the story of the three men who were wounded fatally in the battle of al-Yarmouk which took place in the year 14 H. between Muslims and the Byzantines, where the Muslims decisively defeated the Byzantines.

The Muslim historian, Ibn al-A’rabi reported:
“Ikrimah Ibn Abi Jahl, Suhail Ibn ‘Amr and al-Harith Ibn Hisham were fatally wounded in the battle of al-Yarmouk. While they were laying on the ground gasping for life, someone brought them water, but they passed it one to the other until all of them died.

He said: Ikrimah was offered the water fast, but he noticed that Suhail Ibn ‘Amr was looking at him, he said: give him the water first. However, Suhail noticed al-Harith Ibn Hisham looking at him. And said, start with him first. When they reached him he was already dead, and when they returned to Suhail he also was dead, and when they returned to Ikrimah he also was dead.

When Khaild ibn al-Walid, the commander in chief of the Muslim army heard of their story, he said: May my soul be your ransom”
