According to the majority of scholars Imam Abu Hanifa was a ta'biee. Hafiz ibn hajar quotes he saw 8 companions whereas Sahib-e-ikmaal says 26.
The difference is in the number of companions but he was a Ta'bieen.
''Let the days do as they please,
And be optimistic when destiny decrees,
Do not despair due to the events of nights past
For the events of this world were not meant to last.”

I read their book munad imam azam in which he directly narrated 9 hadith from diffrrent sahabi. And 2 of it frm famous sahabi. Anas ibne malik r.a and all hadith narrated are saheeh. So definetly he wre a tabi'e
قال النبي محمد صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم:*الـحياءُ شُعْبَةٌ مِنَ الاِيِمَانِ*
و قال ايضا:*الحياء لاياتى الا بخير
و قال ايضا:*اذا لم تستحي،فاصنع ما شئت*
