that's quite an extensive list of resources.
are you familiar with the translation by n.j. dawood or m.h. shakir and if so, what do you think of them - which one is better?
these are the ones i have.

I am familiar with them, but I wouldn't recommend either of them. NJ Dawood's translation is not accepted by any Muslims due to a number of mistranslations, and his rearranging the Qur'anic chapters does not allow one the complete benefit of reading the Qur'an in the normal order. As for Shakir, his translation is said to be an example of blatant plagiarism of a Qadiani (a deviant group that has left the fold of Islam) translator, Mohammed Ali, and his also contains mistranslations.

If you cant get the two translations I recommended in that thread, I would suggest either the online translation of Yusuf Ali or Daryabadi although the best are those I recommended in that thread.

Peace.

i would vote for tafheemul qur'an by syed abul ala maududi but dats for ppl who know urdu...the english translation is still underway...

Is their a preferred English translation of the Quran? I am interested in purchasing a new Quran and all related materials. I want to study the newest and best interpretations.

Re: purchasing a new quran

Thank you very much. The list is quite impressive.

Re: purchasing a new quran

Major Compilations:
Sahîh Al-Bukhârî trans. by Dr. M. Muhsin Khan. Links (Hardcover 9 volumes, Summarized 1 volume, Available online as well)
Sahîh Muslim trans. by Abdul Hamdi Siddiqui. Links (Hardcover 8 volumes, Summarized 2 volumes, Available online as well)
Sunân Abi Dawûd trans. by Prof. Ahmad Hasan. Links (Hardcover 3 volumes, Partially available online as well)

Do all major compilations of the Hadiths contain the same information, just different translations, or do I need to purchase all these books in order to obtain all the hadiths?

Re: purchasing a new quran

I found, the Noble Quran translated by Abdul Haqq and Aisha Bewley to be the best. It is easiest to read. None of that thou, thee, ye stuff.

Re: The Qur'an in Translation

try 'the noble quran' by dr muhammad muhsin khan and dr muhammad taqi-uddin al hilali

Re: The Qur'an in Translation

thanks. Someone told me that the Tafsir Ibn Kathir is very good...
yes its very good but you'll need a lot of pre-understanding of islam in order to understand some of it-it's scholarly work, but i heard you can get a simplified version of the work too..?
