Attributes of a true mu'min

Among the attributes of a true believer (mu'min) are:



1. He is very grateful and thankful for the bounties,
favors and blessings ordained by God. He is always
sentient of the countless bounties God confers upon
him, and feels shameful because God still bestows them
upon him even though he is still not be able to be a
perfect servant [of God].



2. He is satisfied and content with what he
has/possesses even though he is poor. He is never
envious of others’ possessions. This means that his
heart is rich, even though he is physically poor.
There are many rich men who are possessors of
tremendous wealth, but at the same time are
dissatisfied and discontented with the inadequacy they
continue to experience [in their possessing this
wealth]. They still want more and more. They are
greedy and stingy. Their heart is poor even though
they are monetarily—physically—rich.



3. He is very patient with any trial, tribulation or
test from God. He reckons the test is a free reward
from God to purify his sins. Therefore, he still
smiles and looks happy,even though he is in great
consternation.



4. He suffers from the sins committed. His mind is
always preoccupied with thoughts of his sins.
Sometimes he cannot sleep when he retrospects upon the
sin. He implores Allah's forgiveness and tears emerge
from the mournful eyes of this believer.
