ختم الله علي قلبه = Allah sealed his Heart (so that good cannot enter and bad cannot exit from it ) خاتم = Khaatim = Seal , Signet – ring ,stamp, Last (The Holy Quran has not used this term) خاتم = Khaatam = Seal ,The Best (The Holy Quran has used this term)
The difference between these two words :
Khaatim = the last portion of a thing
Khaatam = The last portion of a thing + the Best of part .Thus the phrase خاتم النبيين = Last of the Line of the Prophets and the Best
OTHER DERIVATIVES OF THIS WORD
يختم = He seals
Example :
فَإِن يَشَأِ اللَّهُ يَخْتِمْ عَلَى قَلْبِكَ
If Allah so wills, He may seal up your heart. ﴿42:24﴾
نختم = We seal
Example :
الْيَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلَى أَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَتُكَلِّمُنَا أَيْدِيهِمْ
(36:65) On that Day We shall seal their tongues: their hands will speak to Us ختام = Sealing (musk ,wax or clay used in sealing)
Example
خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ
(Sealed with musk,). ﴿83:26﴾
مختوم = Sealed
Example :
يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ﴿83:25﴾
They will be given to drink of pure sealed Rahiq.)
