    Salams

Can someone please explain to me how to pray Sunnah? The format of it, and whether it is different for every prayer. I hope to start praying Sunnah all 5 times insh'allah.

    Thank you

the number denote the units of prayer, obligation is in bold:

Fajr: 2, 2 - the 2 sunnahs before fajr are highly recommended.

    Zuhr: 4, 4, 2

    Asr: 4

    Maghrib: 3, 2

Isha: 4, 2 and witr salah theres variations on the amont and how this should be prayed, refer to the above link for explanation.

Hope this helps, and was what you was looking for...

    Re: Sunnah

    Two before Fajr:

On the authority of Aisha, the mother of the believers (Allah be pleased with her), the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said .The two (sunnah) rakats of the Morning Prayer are better than the world and what it contains (Muslim).

    Four before Zuhr

It is related from Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) that, The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) did not leave offering four rakats before the noon prayer. (Bukhari)

Four before and after the Friday prayer.

Four sunnas before the Friday prayer are established from the hadith of Ibn Abbas (Allah have mercy on him), related by Ibn Majah and others that, The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to pray four rakats before Jumu`ah without separating between them at all.

Two after Zuhr, Maghrib and Isha

It is related from Abdullah ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with both father and son) that he said, I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) two rakats before Zuhr, and two after it and two rakats after Maghrib and two after Isha. (Bukhari & Muslim)

    Four before Asr

Ibn Umar relates from the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) that he said, May Allah have mercy on man who prays four rakats before Asr. (Tirmidhi)

    Six after Maghrib

Abu Hurayra relates that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said Whoever prays six rakats after Maghrib and doesnt speak in-between them with evil, they equal twelve years of worship. (Tirmidhi & Ibn Majah)

Four before Isha and four after Isha

Ibn Abbas relates that I spent the night with my Aunt Maymuna (the wife of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) prayed Isha then returned to his home and prayed four rakats. (Bukhari)

    Insha'Allah this will helps you.

    Re: Sunnah

    talkislam 2010 1010413335 1 - Sunnah

    The Prophet's Prayer Described

    From the introduction:

Praise be to Allaah, who made Prayer compulsory on his slaves and ordered them to establish it and perform it well; who linked success and felicity to humility in Prayer; who made it the criterion to distinguish between Eeman and Kufr; and who made it a restrainer from shameful and unjust deeds.

Prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, who was addressed in the Words of the Exalted:
"And We have sent down to you the Message, that you may explain clearly to the people what is sent for them"
and who fully carried out this task. The Prayer was one of the most important things which he explained to the people, verbally and practically, even praying on the pulpit once - standing, bowing and prostrating, and then saying to them, I have done this so that you may follow me and learn my prayer. He obligated us to copy him in his prayer, saying, Pray as you have seen me praying. He also gave the good tidings to whoever prayed like him that such a person has a covenant with Allaah that He will enter him into the Garden, saying, There are five prayers which Allaah, Mighty and Sublime, has made compulsory: he who performs ablution well for them, prays them at their proper times, and is complete in their bowings, prostrations and humility, he has a guarantee from Allaah that He will forgive him; but he who does not do so, has no guarantee from Allaah: if He wishes, He will forgive him or if He wishes, He will punish him.

Prayers and peace be also on his family and his pious and just Companions, who passed on to us his worship, prayer, sayings and actions (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam), and who made these, and these alone, a Madhhab and a path for them to follow ; and also on those who follow in their footsteps and tread their path until the Day of Judgment.
    Sunnah

And verily for everything that a slave loses there is a substitute, but the one who loses Allah will never find anything to replace Him.”
    [Related by Ibn al-Qayyim in ad-Dâ' wad-Dawâ Fasl 49]
