I’m just learning how to use this so I apologize if I post this in the wrong spot. I just took my shahadah earlier this evening after putting it off for a little. I was brought up Christian but felt drawn to Islam for a long time. Any advice on learning to pray and what other people found helpful after reverting. Thank you.
Asalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatu (peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and his blessings)
Welcome both to Islam and to the forum
Are you able to get in contact with one of your local mosques? Having someone to meet face to face is really helpful. When I converted I had loads of questions and it really helped being able to ask a human instead of the internet
Feel free to stick around this form and post if you want clarification on anything or just want to vent.
May Allah bless you through Islam and the muslims through you
“Allah gave you a gift of 86,000 seconds today, have you used one to say ‘Alhamdulilah"
Akhi, welcome to Islam. I am happy for you, Allahuma baarik. I said my shahada in private, then I found a mosque and said it there.
The imam introduced me to muslimahs living local and gave me books to read. Connection to the muslim community is crucial to learn how to live Islam.
You can read Islamic books, watch Islamic lectures, but to apply Islam in your life, you need to surround yourself with other muslims who are also practicing Islam.
I found these links beneficial in my first few years of being a muslimah, inshaAllah you will find them beneficial as well :
Jabir bin 'Abdullah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:'A slave (of Allah) shall not believe until he believes in Al-Qadar, its good and its bad, such that he knows that what struck him would not have missed him, and that what missed him would not have struck him." (Jami 'at Tirmidhi)
