The Meaning of Happiness in Islam

Happiness is a feeling that resides in the heart. It is characterized by peace of mind, tranquility, a sense of well-being, and a relaxed disposition. It comes as a result of proper behavior, both inward and outward, and is inspired by strong faith. This is attested to by the Qur’ân and Sunnah. Allah says:
    - Whoever works righteousness as a believer, whether male or female, We will give a good life.
    - Then, whoever follows My guidance shall neither go astray nor be distressed. But whoever turns away from My reminder will have a life of hardship.

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “True enrichment does not come through possessing a lot of wealth, but true enrichment is the enrichment of the soul.”

New Muslims people have a great faith between every Muslims. It’s a great example of Hazrat Bilal (R.A.) first life in accepting Islam.
The Islamic prophet Muhammad chose an African slave Bilal as his muezzin, effectively making him the first muezzin of the Islamic faith.
Hadhrat Bilaal (Radhiallaahu Anhu) is a famous Sahaaba who accepted Islam in Makkah. When he accepted Islam, the non-believers placed great difficulties upon him which he bore with great forbearance in his youth.
One day at the time of Fajr, Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) asked Hadhrat Bilaal (Radhiallaahu Anhu), 'O Bilaal, Show me one action that you have done after accepting Islam, whose virtue is above all other actions, because I have heard your footsteps in Jannat'. Hadhrat Bilaal (Radhiallaahu Anhu) explains that I have not done any action whose virtue is more than the others. But it is true, that during the day or night, whenever I made Wudhu, I made it my duty to read some Nafl Salaats, and from amongst the Salaats I read, I verily read Tahiyyatul Wudhu (Salaat after Wudhu)" when Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) heard this, he said that it was because of this action that he had attained such status.

    Re: Happiness in Islam

    Salaams,

It is great when old threads like this get dug out from the depths of the archive and is 'bumped' up..

In my mind happiness in islam would be when I truly learn to be thankful or 'syukur' and to do things for the sake of Allah. Then, the feeling of being 'incomplete' or 'needing to have' worldly things, status, etc is removed. I may find peace and tranquility in that state, but alas, I'm more than half way committed to the duties of the world, far removed from the requirements of our Lord, Allah. I forget Him more than I remember Him, I do more things for other reasons than for His reasons....

Knowing this, how can I truly be happy in islam when I know I will have to account for those moments (and a lot of it too) when I wasn't doing things for His sake, or to even be thankful for the 'gifts' he has bestowed upon me or worse still, thanking the 'courier' and not Him for sending, or did not pay heed when He gave me signs?

Got to start from the basic, and always keep it to the basic. Intentions must be right (for Allah's sake), keep my desires in check and be charitable. At least if I am not thoroughly happy, I am at peace with myself.

    Peace

    Re: Happiness in Islam

For a worshipper with a truly illuminated heart, it is possible that even if the globe of the earth became a bomb and exploded, it would not frighten him. He would watch it with pleasurable wonder as a marvel of the Eternally Besought One’s power. But when a famous degenerate philosopher with a so-called enlightened mind but no heart saw a comet in the sky, he trembled on the ground, and exclaimed anxiously: “Isn’t that comet going to hit the earth?” (On one occasion, America was quaking with fear at such a comet, and many people left their homes in the middle of the night.)

Yes, although man is in need of numberless things, his capital is as nothing, and although he is subject to endless calamities, his power too is as nothing. Simply, his capital and power extend only as far as his hand can reach. However, his hopes, desires, pains, and tribulations reach as far as the eye and the imagination can stretch. Anyone who is not totally blind can see and understand then what a great profit, happiness, and bounty for the human spirit, which is thus impotent and weak, and needy and wanting, are worship, affirmation of God’s unity, and reliance on God and submission to Him.

    Re: Happiness in Islam

What does he who finds God lose? And what does he who loses Him find? (1)

That is, the person who finds Him finds everything, while the person who fails to find Him, can find nothing. If he does find something, it will only bring him trouble. I understood the meaning of the Hadith, “Tuba (happiness) for strangers,”(2)

    Re: Happiness in Islam

    TRUE HAPPINESS & PURE JOY

Be certain of this, that the highest aim of creation and its most important result is belief in God. The most exalted rank in humanity and its highest degree is the knowledge of God contained within belief in God. The most radiant happiness and sweetest bounty for jinn and human beings is the love of God contained within the knowledge of God. And the purest joy for the human spirit and the sheerest delight for man’s heart is the rapture of the spirit contained within the love of God. Yes, all true happiness, pure joy, sweet bounties, and untroubled pleasure lie in knowledge of God and love of God; they cannot exist without them.

The person who knows and loves God Almighty may receive endless bounties, happiness, lights, and mysteries. While the one who does not truly know and love him is afflicted spiritually and materially by endless misery, pain, and fears. Even if such an impotent, miserable person owned the whole world, it would be worth nothing for him, for it would seem to him that he was living a fruitless life among the vagrant human race in a wretched world without owner or protector. Everyone may understand just how forlorn and baffled is man among the aimless human race in this bewildering fleeting world if he does not know his Owner, if he does not discover his Master. But if he does discover and know Him, he will seek refuge in His mercy and will rely on His power. The desolate world will turn into a place of recreation and pleasure, it will become a place of trade for the hereafter.

Happiness is important to have as your behavior is the result of happiness which may revert other Muslims.
