I have a question regarding performing Salat and listening to prayers from youtube. An example of this, I search salat al3icha in youtube, then I pray with the men and women in the video. Basically I follow the imam in the video. Could you please tell me if I am allowed to do this?
It is not permissible for anyone to follow the imam via radio or TV, because prayer in congregation means being together in the same place, so it has to be in one place and the rows should be connected to one another (i.e. immediately behind one another). It is not permissible to pray via radio or TV because they do not meet these criteria.
... ...
It is not permissible for men or women, weak or strong, to pray in their houses, individually or in groups, following the prayer of the imam in the mosque via the loudspeakers, whether that is an obligatory prayer or supererogatory (naafil), Jumu’ah or any other prayer, whether their houses are behind the imam or in front of him, because the obligatory prayers must be offered in congregation in the mosque by men who are strong and in good health, but women and men who are weak and in poor health are excused from that duty.

Re: Performing Salat with Quran from CD player or youtube Prayer.
Please,
I am still waiting for an answer. I use youtube video to pray sometimes after Ishaa, for example Sudaiss in MECCA performing salat. Am i allowed to follow Sudaiss in my Salat, therefore pray as jama3a.
Re: Performing Salat with Quran from CD player or youtube Prayer.
The question has already been answered above. You cannot pray along with the imam on radio or TV/youtube because one of the conditions for a congregational prayer (Jama3a) is that there should be continuity between the Imam and all his followers, and they should all be in the same place. If there are wide gaps in between then your prayer will be invalid.
Re: Performing Salat with Quran from CD player or youtube Prayer.
Salam Brother,
Thank you for the answer. However, my intentions are not to pray jama3a but only the wish to pray listening to a good and long recitation from Sudaiss. I would still go to the mosque for Jama3a, Friday prayer and taraweeh. What do you think in this case? Also, I would use youtube only after Ishaa for witr. I like have khouchou3 so that s why I like to listen to Sudaiss.

If you are praying at home, you should be reciting your own recitation or listening to that of the person physically present who is leading you in prayer. Whichever recording you watch on TV, is in a different country thousands of miles away, at a different time, and it is not valid for you, no matter how nice it is or which imam it is.
There are rules for prayer. We cannot make our own rules, and say that it will improve our prayer or encourage us or help us in khushoo3.
The imam must be physically present, and the recitation we listen to must be the imam who is physically present and we are in the rows behind him. Not something on TV or the internet.
But if the prayer being led by an imam is being prayed say in Makkah and being relayed on TV or radio worldwide, it would not be permissible for a person to pray along with the imam in a distant place simply by hearing him on the radio or watching in on television… (say in Jeddah, or Bombay, or New York, etc.).
The prayer of the person is only valid if he is physically present in one of the rows of worshippers praying behind the imam leading the prayer.

Re: Performing Salat with Quran from CD player or youtube Prayer.
When the Qur'an is recited, listen to it and be quiet so that hopefully you will gain mercy. (Surat al-A'raf; 204) The Qur'an is the Divine word of Allah. Hence, the respect shown to Allah must be displayed to His word as well. Being silent and listening is a sincere sign of this act of respect. Some people consider it sufficient to hear the Qur'an on the radio in an environment where everyone is otherwise occupied and inattentive. However, because the Qur'an is the sublime word of Allah, it must be received with attention and respect. Moreover, one should contemplate the verses and pay heed to them.
Re: Performing Salat with Quran from CD player or youtube Prayer.
listen,
no one even got your question correct enough to answer you correctly.
your question, as I understand it, is this: I am praying at home. not behind an imaam. just me. by myself. and I haven't memorized the quraan.
I would like to stay in salaah longer than usual , and enjoy the recitation of quran. but, i haven't memorized enough.
so, if I program my computer to play a surah or two, while I am standing in salaah, and while it is being recited in the computer, i am also reciting it myself, in my salaah.
then, the PC program pauses for a few seconds to minutes, to allow me to perform my rukuh and sadjah, and tasahhud (if any).
then, it goes back to reciting another surah, with which, I also recite in my salaah.
is it allowed? Am I allowed to do that?
i am NOT trying to follow an imaam thousands of miles away or just a few blocks away.
i do not have an Imaam in front of me, whom I should be following.
this is a question of an individual salaah, where I want to be able to recite quraan longer and since i haven't yet memorized the quraan, i feel i am missing a large portion of the pleasure of reciting the quran in salaah.
Re: Performing Salat with Quran from CD player or youtube Prayer.
On the question of the guy following the computer in salaat .... not allowed .
A person should make tasbeeh during the salaat whilst learning the essentials of salaat in the meanwhile. You can't follow an external device in salaah .... it invalidates it.
Re: Performing Salat with Quran from CD player or youtube Prayer.
What you can do is have the transliteration of the surah on paper on the floor below where you make the sujud. Eventually you will learn the surah. You can also do this for the Tashahud.

Re: Performing Salat with Quran from CD player or youtube Prayer.
The ruling for congregational prayer is still the same. It will not be allowed to follow a distant imam on live TV or radio. The prayer will not be valid.
Please see the links to Fatwa given in above posts. The imam and those praying behind him should be at the same place and there should be continuity till the last row of people praying behind him.
