My teacher once told me that whatever you read in nafl salah you won't forget it. Like you might forget parts of it but it'll become easier to revise. I tried it and it works.

Yeah, makes sense. Sort of like how you never forget what you read in Taraweeh.
im learning at the moment also. it takes two years to get the pronunciation accurate for others who know other languages it takes them less time. always make sure your teacher is qualified. so many muslims have been thought wrong because they were thought by just anybody. if you even have one word wrong you are committing shirk with Allah so always make sure you have it completely correct
alsalumu alaikum sister
you actually made a mistake by saying that if you miss one word wrongly you are committing shirk, actually its the opposite make sure if you get any information ask for proofs
and this is the proof, its an authantic hadith its from bokari and muslim aisha may Allah be pleased with her said that the prophet peace be upon him said a person who read the quran perfectly
he or she will be with al safrh al brar al krmh >>>with angels which is a good thing and a person who read the quran with difficulty and hardly and trying to read it will get double reward
ooh you are lucky because you dont speak arabic ^^

) روى البخاري ومسلم عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ( الذي يقرأ القرآن وهو ماهر به مع السفرة الكرام البررة ، والذي يقرأ القرآن ويتعتع فيه وهو عليه شاق له أجران )) .
^what? how are you lucky for not knowing arabic? the main miracle of the quran is in the arabic language. why learn it without knowing the meaning? then your just a parrot

If you can learn the meaning of what you memorize thats great but its easier to memorize the whole Quran and then learn Arabic. But wat tango said is right, if you memorize but from your actions your a munafiq then no point in memorizing
That gets me pretty mad, I see and hear of people that memorize the whole Quran, and then their actions are like those of a kafir. They memorize the Quran and go smoke pot and drink. These people are the ones that are thrown in madrassahs against their will as young children and come out as "Huffaz" By the time they come out of the madrassas they are adolescents that have the Quran in their brain, but have no idea what it means and even more importantly have no desire to know what it means. These people go on to do nothing with their lives, and this is a big problem that we have throughout the Muslim world and even in the West.
